I hope we send a bill to whom the plane belongs to.

just wondering out loud how does the two jets force the 'intruder' plane into a certain course of action?
If u are the pilot of a passanger plane, and suddenly got 2 fighter jets flying next to u and signal u, I bet u will follow whatever they ask u to do

the bill consist of fuel surcharge, plane maintenance fee, pilot flight allowance and GST ! :sweatsm: sorry loh ! who ask u fly into Singapore.. lucky never land on expressway else must charge ERP also. :bsmilie:

Singapore jets scramble on Thai intrusion

Singapore (dpa) - Singapore's airspace was shut down for nearly an hour while two air force F16 jets were scrambled to intercept a civilian plane without an approved flight plan, the defence ministry said on Wednesday.

The single-engine turboprop Cessna 208 "was heading towards Singapore airspace," said the ministry's statement. The plane was escorted to Changi Airport.

The two "fighters were scrambled to intercept (the) civilian aircraft" at 6:42 pm Tuesday, the ministry said.

Police were investigating the incident. Reports said the plane's 61-year-old pilot had run into electrical problems and tried to land at an airbase before he was intercepted by the warplanes.

The plane was reportedly flying from the Thai resort island of Koh Samui. The shutdown of commercial airspace affected 23 aircraft, disrupting flights in and out of Changi. It ended at 8 pm.

Sixteen incoming flights and six departing flights were delayed between 15 and 40 minutes each, said the Civil Aviation Authority.

One inbound aircraft was diverted to Senai Airport in southern Malaysia. The plane arrived at Changi later.

Aviation experts said the airport has been operating on an enhanced defence against airborne terrorist threats 24 hours a day since the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.

Hmmm. If it was heading "towards" Singapore airspace, it did NOT violate Singapore airspace. Which would mean it got intercepted either in foreign airspace (!), or in international airspace (which would be akin to piracy). I can only hope this report is not true.

erm... maybe the pilot on the left holds up a note reading, "Look to your right and do whatever we tell you".

and the pilot on the right could be pointing a gun at the Cessna and signaling the pilot to follow :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

hmmm... makes sense too. some play in words could picture a totally different picture. if the Cessna is not in Singapore airspace at the point of interception, then it could be... oh no... :nono:

Ermm......you heard of radio? And threats to shoot down the plane if he continues.

This is what US and other nation's pilots do. Damn! Watch too much Discovery. :bsmilie: Well Russian pilots actually shot down a Korean Air 747 back in the 80s after giving verbal warning and firing warning shots.

The RSAF is not taking any chances.

I believe that even the AAA batteries are activated.

There're many people on standby to protect Singapore so that we're able to go home and kpkb on our keyboard about ERP, tissue paper and price hike.

got 50% mid night surcharge or peak hr 35%???

yeah i bet those guys on the ground with the AA and the pilots are itching to take a shot with their live rounds....

It's not often that you can spend $100,000 in a single shot... :bsmilie:

...aerodymanicly not stable, its the computer inside that keep it flying, cause an unstable plane is easier to turn in a dogfight.

What on earth are you writing? What is aerodymanicly? And is an unstable plane really easier to turn in a dogfight? I see no logic. An unstable car is easier to turn - in one particular direction, but not both. I believe a combat aircraft should be stable and balanced such that it can maneuver whichever way it pleases.

I stand to be corrected.

it was KAL 007, a SU-15 Flagon who fired some canons, 2 air to air missiles into it, plane went down into sea of Japan, one of the passenger was a US congressman. The incident nearly provoke a nuclear war between Soviet and USA.

That statement is correct lar...

Stable = Slow to react.
Unstable = anytime can react.

When you're unstable in the air you have lesser "inertial" to break.

If you want to cross reference to car... well you'll have to imagine this.

You're speeding at 400kph. you want to turn right. Which is faster to TURN the vehicle?

to turn ur steering wheel right. or to turn your steering wheel right and pull ur handbrake to Loose Traction for the rear tire?

and the "instable" simply means the CG of the aircraft more behind... this has to do with the supersonic portion of aerodynamics too...

esp if they are ARMED...

Yes, modern fighters are designed to be aerodynamicly unstable. The plane is constantly wanting to bank, turn, spin etc. This makes the plane more maneuvable and agile but unflyable by human pilots. So the plane is flown by computers and the pilot flies the mission. From F16 onwards, most planes are designed this way. The Stealth B2 bomber is also unstable as a flying wing without the tail fin.

Ah yes, very daring and a waste of life.

....

Ahh. Okay. Thanks for the enlightenment.

So, what happens if the computer, for any reason, should fail? Does this mean the pilot cannot land the plane safely?

might be a stunt to find out our reaction times and counter intrusion protocols.. this is definately serious.
that fella must have been interrogated to hell..
