How I wish they have a Competition for the "Singapore Not so Young Photographer Award (SNsYPA)" at least can give it a try no matter how slim the chance is. Now No Chance at all.

But anyway goodluck to the youngster. Go for it

Yes, good point. I'm convinced to take part now. Trouble is that I went through my collection critically and only came up with 4 photos from 3 categories. And if I wanted to be more critical, I guess there wouldn't be anything left to submit.

What I wonder though, is how much it costs to get 6 photos printed out in 8X10. Furthermore, though unlikely, I'm worried that I get shortlisted, they ask me to come down for an interview or photoshoot and I find myself stuck in camp...what could I possibly do then?

you can always anyhow take one picture and blur it - thats called Abstract ;p
( juz kidding - that's not the essense of the abstract lah )

If i come... well, i have a lot of portrait, few abstract, one building ( with lomo cam? lol ) and that's all. But shoot model --> people at work issit? I mean model = posing is their job mah =p

Hey ladies and gentleman,

Just for your information on the SYPA organised by City Developments Limited.

The Singapore Young Photographer Award (Main category) and the CDL Young
Architecture Photographer Award (Subcategory) are open to Singapore citizens
and Permanent Residents residing in Singapore, aged between 13 and 25 as
at 2006.

Each applicant is eligible to submit only 1 set of prints, consisting of 6 prints
that must cover at least 4 of the following 8 subject matters:

# Abstract
# Architecture/Buildings
# Children at play
# People at work
# Portrait(s)
# Nature
# Still Life
# Night Scene

The submission deadline is 15 June 2006.

'Still Life' is a very specific form in the Fine Art. do a google and you'll find many answers

To elaborate a little, it's not just photographing/painting/creating an artwork of anything that's inanimate in nature, it heavily involves the artist's sense of composition because the artist has to 'setup' the subject and the scene.
