As the list gets longer I would like to make some suggestions

1) To define properly the objectives of this outgoing/meetup

If this is purely a outgoing/meet up which focus on knowing more friends and learning new/more strobing technique, I think there will not be any restriction. Restriction meaning the equipment or personals you will be bringing. Of course, minimum cost or no cost involve.
Just set the location, time and date and everyone gather.

If some cost involve, it must be defined clearly it will be spent on what like renting of location, engaging models and etc. Everyone have to pay small fee to pay unless these items are sponsered.

2) Selecting location

The area must be big! I could see the participants will be growing to over 50 before the suggested date. :sweat: If each participants bringing their lightings (And big lightings), the area allocated will be restricted. :think:. And one more thing, it must not case disturbance to public.

3) Grouping

It will be better to group the participants to the camera brand they are holding. Plus points will be able to sync and trigger their lightings. Of course, those who have PWs or other brand triggers will be able to trigger any lightings using appropriate equipment. Do take note, this is not comparing brands, but to understand how to use and utilitize your equipments.

think may want to look at renting a function room somewhere that can hold 20 or more people and split the cost among the people. or someone staying in a condo can book the function room. i am sure there is one in most condos.

Hi guys.. how about the big carpark at National Stadium? Just hope it doesnt rain.. we can start ard 6pm till 9pm OR Sentosa Multi purpose hall near the beach @ Siloso where there are shelters and windy too. Good for hair flying effect. These are the two places of my suggestions. By watching the video (youtube link) regarding the Sydney Strobist Gathering, there shouldnt be any major problem in this although the size may increase by feb. I think this gathering is all about sharing our creativity on our shots.. Sorry if i get this wrong.

As what phoakm mentioned, I also would like to have an agenda. And no offense to harnamsc, but I prefer to end the session with 1 really good photo than the basic 'vase' and stuff. I would rather drag a cat who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and get some nice photos if we can't find a model or no fellow attendie willing to sacrifice himself. I also think a cluster of 10 people will be more efficient than 1 big group, and clustering will also be scalable regardless how many people add on to the list. The problem now is how to organize in cluster and how to keep each cluster at the same level.. so I have no idea. Perhaps we can also have focus on subject? Some might prefer still life, I prefer people and animals (but not those typical dime-a-dozen pretty-girl-smile-at-camera pictures). Then we cluster based on what we would like to shoot?

Er, pardon my saying so but should we impose a limit for the first meeting? I'm worried that if too many ppl attend then we'll be more busy with "crowd control" and ushering instead of focusing on strobing.

My thinking was choose a quiet venue that's dark or dim lighting (easier to get better effects with strobes and flashes) and away from the general public so we're less likely to be disturbed. I was gonna suggest the old camp north of Jalan Kayu (forgot the name), but that is extremely far for those who are not driving.

As for getting a model, if there are no volunteers then we can simply bring a plain white ceramic vase or bowl and an earthenware pot. The curved surfaces will be easier to light up and we'll be able to have a subject for coloured strobes and flashes (white vase) and basic strobing (earthenware pot).

I think the camp close liao...I wanted to join but as I see the list gets longer, I am not sure if the meeting will be effective.

Hi guys thanks for your comments. I'am really shocked with the overwhelming respons!
Well firstly my idea is to break into groups on the day itself. But i dont think it will be good. So guys i will PMing you all and i hope you guys can briefly describe what subject you are planning to shoot and what equipments you are bringing along. If you are bringing along your girlfriend, boyfriend or pets do let me know.

My idea on having this gathering is to know more friends, share and learn new and better ways of strobing.

I'am not a pro myself and i only have 1 umbella and 1 flash.
So by organizing this gathering we all can share equipments among each other and learn new things and at the same time being creative and having fun!

Since the group is getting bigger i apologize for stopping the number of people coming to number 35

Place for shooting would be at Pahlawan Beach. We could take pictures around the beach area and also we can explore the little island up ahead! THe sunset is also facing the beach! I dont think the place is too crowded with people. I've been there before but not to worry i will scout the area next week!
