Alan Photo also likes to chop carrot head! Speaking as one, I can confirm this for sure.

they are just a bit higher then what the other shops are selling...and sometime is not about price...its about stock...

chopping carrot head is called profit maximisation
to you the salesman is a crook
to his boss or the shop owner he is a good sales staff

Agree that some are Bengz Shop even in Funan. Poor customer service (attitude problem) and does not know product well in the first place.

SLS!!! i have blacklisted tat place for photography equiptments purchases long ago, but for computer stuffs its good to go there.

G'day csers, Why are the camera equipments sold in Sim Lim Square are cheaper than other places? Just curious...;)
If they are selling cheaper in Sim Lim Square, you need to check all included accessories carefully.

Only Memory Card cheaper in Sim Lim Square...

Arto.

I don't even get memory cards from them. Completely don't visit that place anymore. I normally get from Funan.

Even when you go to alan, you really to understand the market price and try to nego the price from the uncle, otherwise you will end up paying more.

Always ask for details.

Agree. A very good example is that very recently I wanted to get a dry cabinet and I got an e-quote from CP, AP and a few smaller shops. At the same time, I also pop in to Carrefour which is very near to my office. Since AP quoted me the best rate, of course I went there to get. In the email to them I had specifically indicated that I want the nett price (including GST & payment is to by credit card) for a certain capacity of the dry box I wanted. When I got there they told me a different price so I showed them the email and they looked blurred, consulting one another...made a few phone calls which took about 15mins. Then they returned to me and said that the equote is for an analog model one which is out of stock and keep pushing me to get the digital one. I was quite reluctant and since I'm there, I thought that maybe just fork out that $30+ for the digital one. Then the shp assistant asked me to pay by Nets or Cash, I told him I want to pay by credit card and he said that he would charge me another 2% for credit card payment. I was very unhappy to get from them by now and decided to go get it elsewhere. I went back to Carrefour and found that the dry cabinet is selling at the same price as AP and I do not get charge extra for paying by credit card. I can get my dry cabinet real soon (ordered on Sun, delivered on Tuesday). AP told me they do not have current stock & need to order. (order on Mon, deliver on Wed or Thurs). And Carrefour even have luck draw. So morale of the story is 'Big Name need not mean best bargain'. Do your homework before you shop at AP. Anyway, I doubt I will patronize them again if I can.

Sim Lim shops offer special prices to tourists.

Yes, AP in Sim Lim getting worse by the day. Sometimes those in Funan also. Sometimes super cocky. Next time slap them with a 400mm.

I never buy memory card from Photo Shop in every where. Those computer shop can offer memory card cheaper than those Photo Shop. For example, check Fuwell or Video-Pro price.

yea...it is still better to get camera stuffs from the place mentioned by clubsnapers.

I still prefer to buy from CP or MS Color, where the sales staff are friendly and helpful.

AP is only for those of you who know your stuff. Just walk in, pick up your purchase(s), slap their faces with cash, and walk out.

Haha, I like that! :bsmilie:

CP is not always friendly. They also trying to get rid old stock on me (or others that looks like tourist). At least I have a few bad experiences with CP. I am not blame them, it is a fact of life. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose.
