Sigma to announce a new 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art full frame lens

I am looking forward to see what they have for ultra wide angle.

You made it personal when you say you do not get why sigma would release such a lens...

Different people have different preferences, if you feel 24/1.4 works for you, then that is fine. If the new sigma zoom doesnt work for you, it is fine too. But what i stated is true, that thr world does not revolve around you. Some people find it useful, or a better value than the 24/1.4, or it is more flexible but why do you care? You can just move on and dont buy it.

Agreed, his the one who made it personal. He feels the lens does not work for him does not mean othersfeel the same.

For some field of work the 'zoom with the feet' thing and 'change lens' and 'crop in post production' thing is just pure nonsense.

Price is USD 999 in the USA. Weight abt 941 grams. With a good filter makes it almost 1kg. Release within July.

so who is buying this ;p

SLRgear Review

Conclusion

" We think Sigma has done it again! Sigma once again dares to be different and builds a unique lens not offered by the major manufacturers. In what is essentially a range of fast prime lenses built into a single zoom lens, the new Sigma 24-35mm is stunning with super-sharp images, even when shot wide open. Combined with its fantastic build quality and excellent AF performance, the Sigma 24-35mm ƒ/2.0 Art lens is a great option for street shooters, concert and event photographers, even landscape and astrophotographers; or just about any full-frame DSLR owner looking for stunning sharpness and excellent low-light performance. "

great review. happy to see that the performance is excellent. sigma has really helped to make my hobby more affordable, i used to own all nikon lens, 14-24, 35mm , 70-200 f2.8. now only the nikon 70-200 is left with me. rest of the lens are third party. now waiting for the sigma 85mm f1.4 before ditching the 70 200.

with such a good track record the upcoming 85mm should be super gd too.

Except the Sigma not weather sealed.... they will never replace my 24 and 85 f1.4 / 70-200mm Workhorse Nikkors...

Anyone have news on local pricing and availability?

" Pros and Cons

Pros:

– Fast f/2 maximum aperture
– Sharp at all f/ stops over most of the image
– Snappy and accurate AF
– Very low CA (chromatic aberration) and distortion
– Reasonably priced for feature set

Cons:

– Heavy (over two pounds)
– Large compared to most primes
– No Image Stabilization

Overall, I am very impressed with this lens. In my opinion Sigma has continued to honor the pedigree of their Art Series lenses and really hit a home run with this one. If anything about an f/2 wide-angle prime lens that zooms appeals to you, then you will most definitely be happy with this lens.

I think that this lens will appeal to a lot of people… and also turn off a bunch. Some will not like the limited focal range (zoomers), some will not like the size and weight (mirrorless folks and street shooters), and some just don’t shoot that wide (tele-heads). "

True, our weather very often rain. Even indoors shooting if you move around much, ie Chinese weddings, you bound to get wet.

I have the 35 1.4 and 24 1.4, but still interested in this. It may prove very useful.

Stock has arrived at TK but only for Canon EF. $1288

People who want this lens most likely want to shoot wide open at full frame on it, so the distortion and vignette a bit disappointing to hear, but excited to see real world tests before deciding.
