SIGMA SD-1 Flagship

This sigma's new sensor is awesome, is a direct image sensor and no need low pass filter to prevent false colors, it will make a very sharp image without losing any color information.

I cant remember where I read this, but because of the 3 stacked sensors, it is not a 45MP sensor but it is also not just a 15MP sensor. I think some math was involved and it was said that the end result will be that of a 24.5MP equivalent from Canon, Nikon or Sony.

Not exactly helpful with no reference...

Picked up the SD-1 in HK last week. HKD52000 from a shop in Sham Shui Po for the body. Feels and looks very solid. I dropped it with a 50mm f/1.4 within an hour and it landed lens first and every thing still works. Lens cap was stuck and required alot of prying to get it off though.

File size is about 45MB for RAW and review takes awhile (about a second) even with a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro CF card. RAW format is .x3f. On the Mac, iPhoto, Aperture and Lightroom does not seem to recognize the files. Sigma's Photo Pro 5 works fine but I normally try to limit myself to Lightroom.

Autofocus speed is ok, but nothing to shout about, definitely not on par with the likes of a Sony A77, more like a Leica S2 or Pentax 645D.

Accuracy of the AF seems to be ok, not bad but not spot on all the time. I can't really judge yet because I did drop the camera about 3 feet onto a carpeted floor. So it has to go back to the service center for calibration at least.

I would have had a heart attack if I had dropped a S$10,000 camera like you did.

talk about a sacrificial lamb, I mean lens ....:bsmilie:

Hmm.. that's quite a price drop, isn't it?

yes thats why im selling my SD15 now on the forum and i want to get the SD1. its coming to SG in Mid march

Mid march came and gone... is the SD1 available in Singapore yet?

Sigma Singapore says they expect by end of March.

By end-Mar, it will be competing with the likes of the Nikon D800 which is about the same price.

Not sure if it's good or bad... feature wise I think Nikon has an advantage. However, for IQ - we have to wait and see!

its here already and i've got mine already! awesome!

Where did you get it from and mind telling me for how much? :) Thanks! :)
