Sigma Lenses. How Good?

Actually... the guy at the service centre claimed that a plastic mount on the lens saved my metal mount on the camera the day I dropped them out of an opened car door.

You can get the plastic mount replaced for a small price if it is under warranty - you pay for the parts. But get a better Zuiko standard zoom, my advice, you are worth it~! ;p

Back to the topic..This is shot with the Sigma 18-50/f2.8

Any idea how much they charge to replace the plastic mounts? Time to change mine. Still under warranty.

Anyway, Im currently using the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 Oly mount. It has the weight of a 18-180mm but I still love it. Replace it from my 14-42mm kit lens.

How do you find the color? I think it lack contrast.

You mean Sigma colour? cant see any difference really thru the naked eyes. But if Tamron were to make Oly mount, Ill go for tamron.

To be honest - it's really difficult to determine if the contrast is good or not unless you're shooting in a very controlled environment like the ones they use to test lenses...

In the real world - metering and exposure are the key elements IMHO.

But color wise, I've heard that SIGMA Lenses tend to impart a yellowish hue but logically speaking, shouldn't this be taken care of if you're shooting in AUTO WB or CUSTOM WB?

Even so, now that we're shooting digital, isn't a slight color shift something that can be adjusted in post-processing?

I've been itch to buy the 105mm Macro from SIGMA for the longest time but mixed reviews (most saying that it's only about as sharp as the kit lens) have been putting me off.

Don't see any yellow tint :embrass: but the slight lack of contrast from all my shots..I have to add the contrast to all my shots done with the Sigma but not with the Zuiko. This could be avoided using the in camera setting but if I do, the the Zuiko would have too much contrast. So I left it be and adjust it in the PC.

As for lens reviews, just make sure you look at which camera it's being reviewed on. The oly with it's smaller sensor needs a smaller light circle as compared to the APS-C. So a similar lens made for the APS-C would have a very different result on a 4/3. Another thing is the slightly wider DOF on the 4/3. This could give you a "sharper" picture.
