yea, i did extensive research, i did came across that thread. So you got the Tamron?

Sigma (CanonMount) 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 DG MACRO (NON-OS) , this is very tempting too hmm, the range is impressive.

didn't get it. the "macro" function isn't that important to me anyway , so i might be getting 55-250 IS instead. but for now i'm happy with my 28-75 f2.8 and borrowing my brother's 10-22

i'd advise you to try the 28-300 first because such long zoom lenses are usually very very soft and f6.3 isn't easy to work with too in all but the best lighting conditions. i had an 18-200 but i stopped using it completely once i got my 28-75.

u can try sim lim square..
look for the version before 70-300mm macro tamron should be non macro..
less than $200 only...
i bought my sigma for $360..the tamron costs $240..
i chose the sigma cos the tamron i tested was not a sharp copy...a QC problem wit 3rd party makers...

A point to note, this lens is originally slightly soft at the tele end at f/5.6. To test if sharp, take a few pics at different focal lengths and different apertures and it on your camera's LCD. Zoom in to check.

If your lens is soft at all focal lengths and even small apertures, it's a lemon. But for this lens it's only slightly soft at 300mm wide open at f/5.6. Else, it's sharp.

The OS version is $700+. But do note that u do note get APO and 1:2 macro.

Yes, non-APO and non-macro. With the OS version, i think your magnification is 1:3.9 instead of 1:2 on the APO macro one.
