Sigma APO 70-300mm F/4-5.6 DG MACRO USER

Hi,
anyone any idea this lens works on canon 550D?

Thanks

Anyone tried to use any of the +2 or +4 close up filters on this lens for macro?

close up filters are generally not recommended for macro. Doesn't give good quality.

I'm still a newbie and learning so please don't expect too much. Here's mine using the APO 70-300mm DG Macro. CC welcome.

the len's build in motor, does it work on a nikon d5000?

Hi, I am a Nikon D5000 user and have been following this thread to understand a bit more about this Tamron 70 - 300 macro lens. Somehow I am still quite loss and would appreciate those with the same camera and lens can share with me.

1) What is the difference for Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 LD Macro 1:2 trading at around $200 in this forum and those with DG, APO, SP, etc?
2) I read that the Tamron AF 70 - 300 mm can only operate in macro at 100 mm zoom. If one wants to take a macro nearer, what is the max distance from the subject?
3) For a newbie, is this lens good enough for macro shot or for that price, we should consider something else?
4) I am not sure I need to shoot something that far, the ability to interchange from macro to telephoto sound good but are there compromises?
5) From the youtube, I noted this lens does come with motor, that is it can auto focus with D5000. However, many have commented they have difficulties focusing. Why?

The best anwsers would be a D5000 user to share his/her experiences and advice.

1. This is a sigma lens not TAmron. They are not similar at all just because the range is the same. Those abbrviations just go google " sigma/canon lens abbbreviations"

2. macro usually 100mm is good.

3. Most macro ppl suggest other true macro lens costing 500+ - 600+ cheapest. both sigma and tamron are not exactly macro lens.

4. this lens won't give what you want.

5. this lens doesn't have much problems focusing. unless you are taking photos of a black cat in a dark corner at night. Exaggeration here but hope you get my point, not a serious issue.

Hi all user of Sigma APO 70-300,

I got this lens recently(second hand piece) and try out at Singapore Zoo, trying to shoot animals pictures. I couldn't get sharp images from it. I agree my skills could be the cause as i'm still new to photography. But I have a few shoot on tripod which i thought can bring me sharper images. But I still couldn't a real sharp picture.

Anyone can share how to better maximise the capability of the lens.

Thanks
Iven

try this out in a lighted area. object should be still

1) set on tripod
2) put to 300mm aperture between F8 to 11. these f numbers are the sharpest I have obtained so far
3) ensure shutter speed is at least 1/300 (or 1/XXX which XXX is your lens focal distance) If still too dark, increase iso
4) put to 2 or 10 secs timer mode to minimise vibration when you press the shutter button

If you are getting sharper image with this, chances are the technique using this lens and not the lens problem.

Hi, there seem to be a number of models for this Sigma 70-300 mm macro lens. I saw DS, DG. DL, APO, Di Li, Macro super II, etc.

Any bros here hear of Sigma 70-300 mm F4-5.6 DL Macro zoom lens? I understand this lens require an adapter in order to fit Nikon D5000. What do you call this adapter and would the AF and the rest work?

Thank you for sharing.

Looking for a budget zoom and discover this lens. Any new users want to encourage/discourage getting this lens before I get it. Thanks in advice.

Hi is it compatible with canon 60d???

This is an awesome lens for its built and sharpness. Taken @ 300mm macro end. But sadly giving it up for another lens. Any takers? :bsmilie:

Post yr sale at the buy and sell section.

Used to own this lens until i sold it for canon's 70-300L, never looked back even though there's no macro but it wins everything else.

Did u flick the macro switch? Do note that this macro function is only available from 200-300mm range and note the minimum focusing distance (MFD). BTW it's not true macro as it's only 1:2.
