Hey , i am considering buying this lens , can it work as well with a 450D, i am a new user as well thanks. i been reading and some people says with 450d the pictures are very blur and not sharp but your pictures proofs otherwise.(maybe its 450d) and they also complained that the lens is slow in auto focusing . may i know what camera you are using? pls advice me on this i really need a zzoom / macro lens. and what is the difference between the apo and os lens

Not sure about 450D. The shots taken were with 500D. Its a little slow focusing in low light. Other than that, if you are using mostly in the day, its pretty decent for the price you pay.

I rarely use the macro function thus can't comment but you will definitely need a tripod for macro shots. I think i read somewhere the APO denotes reducing chromatic abberation. DG is for digital cameras.

There are 2 current variations to this lens, one with APO DG Macro and the DG OS for Optical Stability (canon's IS equivalent). The latter costing almost double the price of the APO DG Macro. Do a search in google, theres quite a bit of review on this lens.

Thanks. Glad you like it. I think with a 2x converter or the bigma, it will be a drop dead shot. I saw a thread somewhere by another photog..his shots make me salivate. haaa.

I'm still a newbie and learning so please don't expect too much. Here's mine using the APO 70-300mm DG Macro. CC welcome.

would you prefer tamron or sigma one? i just came back from ms color and sigma's lens is selling for 300 + while tamron is selling for 260. both are the same thing just that one is made in japan and one in china

Jake:

I like #3 and #4 crisp and clear. :)

What's the price of Sigma APO 70-300mm F/4-5.6 DG MACRO with OS, if it comes with OS at all for Canon mount. Is the Sigma one made in Japan? Does it come with 3 year warranty?

sigma would be 360 i think . and yes it is made in japan , and i am not sure with the 3 year warranty , but i check out the tamron one for the same thing at the price of 260 with 3 year warranty the only problem is that it is made in china

Sigma APO 70-300mm F/4-5.6 DG with OS - about $780. APO DG Macro about $360. If im not wrong, warranty for Sigma is 2.5 years. 1 yr local, 1 year international + 6 months from online registration.

Thanks! I'm slowly learning and hopefully someday I can come up with great shots the way it is suppose to be!:bsmilie:

cheers!

anyone here has any opinions regarding its image quality when compared to sigma 70-200 f2.8? i know they are of different class
but if this lens is really good, it may serve as a good alternative to those who want a zoom lens but at the same time want to save
some dough.. :)

The sigma/tamron 70-300 are good outdoor lenses, but you might have difficulty focusing indoors.
Here's where the 70-200 will win as it has f2.8 aperture, allowing the camera to focus under low light. Subject Isolation with f2.8 is , of course, better
If stopped down, it should be sharper than the 70-300 at the same aperture. It's shortcomings are the weight, price and slightly shorter focal length

hmmm.. so to say, this will make a good lens for zoo outing, jurong bird park,
maybe some casual birding? in summary, a good telephoto zoom in broad daylight? :)

however, I read that this lens has some focusing issues and tends to hunt?

just a question,

without the 70-300mm box, how do i tell if its for nikon or canon mount? the ex owner has not a clue and i guess i have to try it?

is there a marking or code on the lens itself?

You can ask him to check the rear cap. It may show the wordings 'For Nikon'. Mine has 'For Canon AF'.

oh okies.

my friend's model is the DL macro, not DG macro..seems like there is so many variations for this 70-300mm..

can anyone help enlighten me?

I am considering this lens for my pentax kx. Been researching and it appears the tamron version(70-300mm Di LD Macro) is sharper but have a much CA problem. This sigma version has less of that ( #2 pictures has some of it near the edge of the leaves) but it is not as sharp especially the longer end.

probably gonna get this brand new with long warranty since the 2nd hand prices are not as attractive (esp when the motor might go haywire....touch wood!)

was quoted $334 -$350

just need to clarify one last thing - motor / non motor. is there a requirement? i'm using a D90/D70 so non motor is fine but will it be a negative effect having it on the lens?
