Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6

From DPR:

"this features a disorientatingly-wide angle of view of 121 degrees for exaggerated perspectives."

Oooh yes :P I find 14mm (on a full frame body) already frustratingly hard to use without getting annoyed, good luck with 12mm ^.^

Oh don't get me wrong I love it too. What I said was, it's difficult to use ^.^

I think so far all the super UWA lens cannot put on filters due to their bubble front element. Even if you put the filter on, the effect would probably look weird, a bit like uneven polarization? Think they need to come out with bubble filters.

a big enough gnd will still be ok, as long as you are able to prevent light leakage from the sides, etc.

Bro,
Nikon 14-24 f/2.8, Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6, and this Sigma 8-16 f/4.5-5.6, all can't use filters.
But people still look for them

Actually you still can use Cokin or Lee filters, but you need to hold it manually.

I expect this Sigma 8-16 f/4.5-5.6 as sharp as Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6

Erm.... both Cokin and Lee make filter holders as well so you don't need to hang on to them manually.....

? i am not aware of this.

cokin and lee make filter holders for the lenses without filter threads?

Pardon me for my ignorance.. How do u mount the filters and not let light leaks from the sides with fixed petal hood from the lens?? I'm kinda mountain tortoise and cant visualise :bsmilie:

I realised dpreview stated the filter attachment size of this lens as "TBC". Aint this lens supposed to come with fixed hood design with no filter thread? Dunno how you guys interpret it :dunno:

Isn't there a gelatin filter holder at the rear lens element?

look at the video, don't think there will be filter thread.

no idea, but when i said LARGE GND filter, i meant something that can cover the viewing angle, if it is as big as a piece of office window glass, confirm will work mar. :bsmilie:

i don't think hand holding a filter for 60-120 seconds is going to do much for me, really.

not to mention, the fact that 80% of photos or more will be misses, since the extreme wide angle means that you will get your fingers, finger hair, nose hair sticking into the picture.

sharpness is overrated. ;)
Hi Night86mare,
In what circumstances that you required to shoot from 60-120 seconds using wide angle lens ? Which camera did you use ?

Hi Kit,
Yes that's true. Unfortunately :
- Nikon 14-24 f/2.8
- Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6
- Sigma 8-16 f/4.5-5.6,
all don't have filter threads.

I think Lee filters are the largest available filters in the market.
That's why I suggest to hang Lee filters manually for lens without filter threads, without afraid of shooting the hanger.

No lah, still easy to use. Maybe becos i'm a wide shooter.

Oops, apologies. I didn't mean lenses with filter threads. Lee makes a customisable and a dedicated filter holder for the 14-24mm. I believe Cokin is not far behind too.

ah, that's cool. how does it work?

low light photography.

or when i use a nd110 (10 stop nd filter).

i like long exposure photography. and handholding for that ain't gonna cut it.

From what I see, it grips on to the external side of the lenshood. Not cheap though. Close to 1k.

for the filter holder alone?

that's sick. ok, scrap all thoughts of a 12mm (after crop) perspective and filter holders. :sticktong

I think so. That's why I'm hoping Cokin will do one too.

I'm looking forward to all the new releases other than Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM.
hmmm something i oso interested to noe wahaha but i sure the lens will more ex :D
