Sigma 35mm Backfocusing issue

Inconsistency means only a certain percentage of shots are spot on even when subjected to the same condition/ focusing the same subject. Most lenses have some hit rate, some better than others. Sigma 35mm is probably about 70-80%. I.e. 7 out of 10 shots nail the focus spot on. For me it's acceptable. This phenomenon applies to my copy only, other owners, feel free to contribute.

Update: My previous copy had a 90+%hit rate based on gut feeling, so I'm guessing theres copy variation too. Too bad inconsistency is harder to test for especially with varying light conditions.

same here for my nikon 35mm. at good light it is probably 90%. poor light, maybe 70? my d700 has a higher hit rate than my d800. just sent mine to nsc. maybe the focusing sensor is dirty or something...

Thanks for the contributions guys. Its always good to share our experiences, especially since we live in a country that does not buy into a return policy, only 1 week exchange....

As a side note, seems like the Sigma USB dock is now available for sale from B&H. Matter of time before it comes to singapore. Word of caution though, it will not solve asymmetric focusing issues, but it will let you calibrate the lens at different focusing distances for the 35mm. (Not sure if it lets you do it at different focal length for the zoom lenses.)

Hi, guys. Are you guys talking about Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM A Nikon ?
This is out of topic, but you are users of this lense.
I need a wide angle lense to shoot buildings (Europe) and my wife for future overseas trips.
According to dxomarks, Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM A Nikon is one of the sharpest lenses on D600.
I am looking for a lense on par with afs 85 1.4g in terms of IQ. I like 85's low contrast images. My question is this lense too contrast for portraits ?
I have previously owned afd 24 2.8. it is sharp in the middle by f/4. I like to shoot at f/1.4 and still sharp. the bokeh on afs 24 1.4 is terrible.

Yup, off topic. You should post it in the other 35mm user group.

But just this one time, I think the 35mm has great bokeh for what it's worth, though if you are expecting the 85mm quality, I doubt it is possible for a 35mm to match it.. As for contrast, it is contrasty in my opinion, but you can always reduce contrast via picture control. Go look at some Flickr photos to get an idea of the iq.

Best way is to try the lens from someone or rent it to see for yourself
