Heheh, come on Olympians! Think BIG! Think 100mm/f2.8 Macro

Why not the Sigma 30mm f1.4 until the Leica 25mm f1.4 comes out. 50mm f2 instead of 35mm f2 until the 100mm f2 comes out.

Looks like we are just waiting and waiting for lenses to come out :(.

Don't wait and wait, invest in Zuiko ED lenses and shoot to your heart content lah. Every now and then new technology or lenses will be invented so if wait for this and that than you have already missed out the joy of photography.:bsmilie:

Anyway original maker makes their lenses and accessories 100% compatible and tweaked it to work optimum with their cameras. Third party may not be the same in this prospect even it may be compatible.

The 50mm macro is great for portraits and all that, but I've found is it not long enough for Sungei Buloh wildlife.

The 35mm macro is great for flowers and plants (read: non-moving), but it is not weatherproofed, so it is not for the great outdoors. Makes a good portrait lens as well. May not be bright enough for indoors (that's where the Sigma has an advantage).

As for the Leica, well.. ain't gonna pay an arm AND a leg for it...

I only want a good portrait lens but I sometimes may take it outdoors to shoot. The 25mm f1.4 will be my future replacement.

What ZD lens do you want me to invest in?

I want to buy the 35mm first, then the 14-54mm followed by the 50-200mm. I don't want to replace the 40-150mm so quickly as it is quite a capable lens.

I manage to play around with the 35mm when I went to cathay photo to buy the lightsphere.
It's quite a good lens and the image quality is superb.

Called the Sigma agent in SG and was told the lens would be here no later than the end of this month.

Anyone has any news on this?

Has anyone taken a portrait (adult half body or shoulder shot) with the 35mm wide open - with samples to show? I have been thinking of this lens as a budget portrait lens but am not too sure about the depth of field of the lens - and I am not able to get my hands on one for testing...

TIA!

If you want a portrait, the 50mmf2 will give you better DOF. But with the 4/3 standard and available lens (not being in favor of DOF), the 30mm 1.4 seems the best choice for now.

i'm not really crazy about depth of field. Low depth of view always blur things out so you'll miss some detail. I just want a fix- focal with the capability of taking macro.

Go for the 35mm Macro then, best bang for the buck (probably half the price of the 50mm ZD and the Sigma 30mm).

The 4/3 system will give you twice the DOF compared to 35mm systems, also given that 4/3 lenses were designed to be telecentric, it is sharp wide open, even at the edges.

give that sigma f1.4 a chance... it is better than you think. ;)

Guys.....finally got a new set of lens..guess what...I went for the sigma 30mm 1.4.Boy I was in for a BIG:bigeyes: surprise when I tested its AF.Lightning fast I would say;) I was also amazed how I can shoot in low light with great ease.I also got to try the ZD50mm and I did love it too.Guess people here are wondering why I went for the Sigma....Well first like I said in previous threads...I do more Portraiture than macro and the focal length was more convenient for me,I just imagined myself in a MotorShow trying to get a shot of a model standing beside a car...and ...like I said ...the 30mm would serve me well.Sharpness wise...(newbie here)...I am more than happy.Just have to practice more on the DOF I guess.

Bottomline...I would rather treasure my kit lenses which I have to agree with alot of guys in here....are More-than-you-expected type of kit lens.

Btw...hope Hacker wont be offended after I used his photos....I havent had time to post mine taken using the Sigma. Thanks:cool:

I have a recently bought 35mm f3.5 to let go. Very new, anyone interested? do pm me.. Find myself under utilised it. Sorry, can kindly remove my post if I violate the rule to sell my len here.. :embrass:
