Okay, still no time to get my butt out for test shots. Got this pic, should be clearer to justify the calibration i guess. =) Hope it helps!

Focused on the inner eveready batt on the letter "R"

Cheers! ;)

You cannot draw any firm conclusions from this picture. If anything, it shows a sharper "R" on the second battery than any one of the rest. Some other parameters you need to bear in mind:

* From the picture, it looks like you used the wide end as most of the background is out of focus. Did you eliminate hand shake possibility? The small DOF becomes a challenge.
* Try and get the batteries lined up closer so that there is no gap. This will help show up better if there is any BF/FF.

Just got this as my first prime lens (Oly mount) last weekend after reading the positive reviews here. Here's some sample shots to share without editing.

f1.4, 1/750, ISO100

f2.8, 1/10, ISO400

Love it so far except I suspect that it is giving me inconsistent focusing problems. Will appreciate some opinion on the below test I conducted with camera mounted on tripod and on timer release. Thought that it is a bit too soft at f1.4 too

The bokeh is really nice!

hey guys, has anyone considered buying this lens from ebay before?
i went to do a quick scan through, found this shop selling through ebay. its based in HK from what i read.
http://cgi.ebay.com/S3K-Sigma-30mm-f-1-4-30-1-4-EX-DC-USM-Lens-for-Nikon-D_W0QQitemZ230435151247QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cameras_Photographic_Accessories?hash=item35a7015d8f

shipping is included, so AUD475 converts to around SGD597 as per www.xe.com.

do you guys think its reliable or worthwhile?

you have to keep in mind that your exchange rate will never be the same as XE through the banks or money changer. =)

anyone know how much is OP selling for this lens? I check with MS colour they are selling at $718, reason they give is due to Japanese yen rising. Just want to make a compare before purchasing. thank.

try to test the lens before buying. taking example of the pic, set ur cam to center focusing only and set F at lowest, 1.4 (wide open) and start shooting.

my opinion is to shoot at the "o" of the gibson using this pic as example.

u will be able to justisfy if the o is very sharp or not. if sharp means the lens is good!

HI,

Is there a 30mm f1.4 and 30mmf1.4 EX DC HSM?

What's the diff?

Thanks for the advice! Will test it out when i'm at the shop.

Just got mine for 730 at ms color. Guess it's due to rising yen as well. Nice pictures at low light situations!

anyone finds shooting portrait with this lens end up the face seems abit rounder, flatter?... or is it just me?...
