hey friends, i'm another happy user with this baby..... however at times i do face this issue of focusing.
it's not really the common front/rear focusing issue that everyone is talking about, at times i do a bit of shooting in weddings and we know most of the hotels ballrooms have those yellow nice ambiance light
S duno wat u call it), i find that under these lights, the focus always goes off abit, resulting in focusing the back.
I'm normally shooting candids so ranging between f1.8 to f3. with or without external also have this issue. However if it's a nikkor i dont face such issue under the same situation. btw i'm using d7k..
nevertheless i still love this lens as much.. but to be on the safe side as i need to pass photos to clients, i reduce the usage during wedding banquets unless the lightings situation allows.. anyone have same problem as me? :S

Recently got this gem from DDE, quite lucky to get a sharp copy out of the box. Haven't done much testing tho, but below is 100% crop, at f1.4, ISO 200. Focus was on the metal rim of the glasses. Camera is Canon EOS 60D.

I'm going to get my copy from dde tomorrow! bro silentseth is the sigma new one with smooth coating or old one with matt coating?

I've noticed that this lens works well with 60D out of the box, other body may require calibration

I believe the newer copies of this lens all have the new, smooth coating. Probably Sigma has buckle down on the QC now, after past complains on the coating and focusing problems =)

As a gentle reminder, please don't forget to test before you buy. Don't rush, make your decision wisely.
If you ask me, the characteristic of this lens is already well known e.g. very sharp at the center (provided you have a good copy), soft in the extreme corners, with some purple fringings and some CA. I experienced some miss focus on long range objects, but almost perfect on low & mid range. All in all, it's a keeper.
Attached is a sample of picture taken using this lens, straight from camera, resized.

Thanks for the reply! I just bought my lens from dde today. Not too sure if I've got a good copy can you guys help see if I got a lemon? All pictures SOOC

I think it's a good copy =) Congrats!
About the miss focus on long range objects I said earlier, I just remember that I focused on a moving object, so probably it was my mistake, not the lens =p
