Similarly, I was also looking for a lens that would be 36mm on APS-C cameras... and being faster than the Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 lens. This would be the choice. I find the macro (or close focusing) feature quite cool too. If you decide to buy this lens, pls test it as you may get front or back focsing issues... and if you do get one with a front or back focusing, just take a trip down to the Sigma Service Center to get it calibrated.
I just bought the 24mm 1.8. How bad is bad? I did a test on the calibration chart and I was focusing at 0 at 1.8. The 0 was blur but the 1 in front was clear. Does that means my lens has a little front focusing problem? Should I sent it down to calibrate?![]()
If you focused at 0 and 0 was blur but 1 in front was clear, it does mean that you have front focusing. Depending on your shooting style, it may or may not affect you. Try and shoot at apertures like f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6 to see what the difference is.
If you are using a camera that can do AF Fine Tuning, you can adjust it yourself... but if not, then you can either send it to Sigma to calibrate, or you can mentally tell yourself each time you shoot that it is front focused, so you need to compensate that yourself. If you find that this difference does not affect you, then you may not need to calibrate the lens. The set I got was beyond AF fine Tuning, and that is why I had to send it for calibration.
im looking for this lens... any chance to get it locally ? i ask a few shops and have to order, the price is not favourable as well...
I got mine from MS Color... at $626. Price was before Chinese New Year don't know if the price has increased or not. You need to wait about 1 month for the lens to come. But it's well worth the wait... since for me, Nikon does not have fast wide lens.![]()
