how much does the lens cost?

I'm also keen to know the cost of this lens. I believe it is around S$600 in HK. Saw a preowned set offered at $380 in CS once. Can current user share this imfo please. Cheers.

Forumers from another site once taught me to stay at f8. It helps.

But if you want an alternate Sigma lens, go for 17-70mm, it is very sharp and bright. I no longer seek wide range zoom lens anymore as they tends to be disappointing.

thanks for the advice ....I buy the lens mainly for my travelling...during non-travelling time...I will practice trying to get the best out of this cam...
the link are some pic that I took yesterday....my fren tell me its very sharp already...but I still think something is not right......haha.:sweat:

Hi, based on your pics shown(in your provided link), it's consider Sharp:)

Hmm...haha...of cos each individual preference of sharpness-expectation varies, so if your expectation of 'sharp' is basically comparing to those of High-Quality-Optics-Glass lenses images/photos, then it's not so fair/right in terms of price-point of this 18-200-OS lens that could give you this considerably:thumbsup:'sharp-enough-pic-at-this-price-point plus OS, agree?

Btw, I really love this lens alot...=-)

I have the same lens =) It works ok for me as I am not too concerned with sharp images, I am more concerned with nice images =) hahaha;)

Its a good all in one, nice if you don't want to carry too much stuff around. But defintely once I got more into it, I got the 50mm and 10-24 wide angles, which really... image quality wise, the sigma just can't touch. ;p

no sample photo from u guys???

Since you like lotus, go for the fix lens, perhaps you can consult for Sigma range. I recently tried a loan Canon EF 100mm f2.8 macro and it is clean sharp. And because fix lens are consistent at a f-stop, lesser worries.

hi to the lao jiao using this lens......

I have been using the 18-200 OS HSM version for 3weeks already, but sincelast week I notice something weird abt the lens.
Sometime can feel and see the lens have a vibration after the shoot.....no effect to the pic......I off the OS...off the AF....same thing will happen on and off....maybe out of 20~30shot , got 1 time.

is this normal?.....

Yup....been using it on my 40D and at times it does vibrate badly like kena "electric shocked". Was a little worried cos last week while switching it to burst mode...it just died with the cam showing "ER99". tried all tricks like removing everything and the usual "erasing" the contacts and even "reflash" the firmware but just won't work. Ended up in CSC and guess what...they had to replace the motor and the shutter ( luckily still under warranty )!!! Makes me wonder if it is caused by the lens???

Ah, i'm using this lens too folks! just that mine is not the OS version. but still it's pretty nice for what it does. just wondering tho, is there any known difference in picture quality between the normal DC and the DC OS versions of this lens?

Hi folks,

Also planning to get this lens. What is the current price tag? I saw one post saying its working on a d5000. i have a d3000, will it make a difference?

nope..it'll do the same work as on a D5000..
enjoy your new toy :)

i'm not using the OS version too.
can see sample from one of my noob shoots. lens not as costly as the other big brands but versatile enough for me to do plenty of practicing. ;p

I own a D5k, this lens will work on D3k too...just make sure you get the HSM version.price shd be around 700...the RRP is 799

I almost make a mistake getting the cheaper non-HSM version...actually it will still work...but can only manual focus.....

HSM is the build in focusing motor. google for it and u will know what does it mean....

Hi! I find that the 18-200 OS (non-HSM) isn't sharp at all and always leads to overexposure issues?

Any ppl facing the same problem

i've been using for nearly 9 months and shot thousands of photos with it.

Overall, this lens is so-so. had some problems with it. Nothing serious. mostly hardware, like the lens creep (but which is extremly irritating at times).

However, the one thing that irks me most is that there's this high pitched sound emitted from the lens when the camera is switched on. At first i thought it was from the OS but it's still there even after i switch it off.
i brought it to Cathay Photo where i bought it from. the sales person took a new sigma 18-200 OS off the shelf to hear if any sound was produced - there was none.

I'm quite sure that my lens was pretty silent when brand new too. the high pitched sound came after some usage.

I was advised to bring it back to the agent and see if they can help :/
has anyone had a similar experience?
