Just cannot quite understand the rationale behind this restriction of 500mm or longer lens.

Long tele lenses are for shooting flying metal birds. Are they afraid that your lens is so power to see the face of the pilot? Or the serial number of their AA guns?

Well, IMO, those super-teles are too big and cumbersome and so, no good in shooting flying birds that are flying at more than Mach 1.

BTW, what is the price for the lens? Thinking of getting something to covers my 200 to 400 range.

Dude, fighters will never fly at Mach 1+ over populated areas anyways.
(Referring to peacetime flying lah!)

It's roughly around 1.3k if I can recall correctly.

I think it is not about taking photos of the aerial display. The fact that photography is never allow inside camps still stays but if cameras are not allowed in open house events i think this factor alone will desuade visitors and finally the purposes of holding the display. I guess what they can do was to border out areas where visitors can move about freely and photography allowed here. There must be a restriction and limit though to the zoom magnification of photography equipments that can bridge the distance between a safe zone and an area which is restricted to unauthorize viewing or entry. And i think this event is also limited to PR and Pink IC holders.

I guess if you want 500mm and beyond you have to work in pairs. You bring the 400mm and your friend bring the 2x teleconverter.

:D

Hey, bro, this is risky man. Do it and dun get caught by the MP. Dun forget that Martial Law rules inside the camp. The police has not authority here and the penal code doesn't apply. And there is no such thing as human rights here.

Anyone caught spying will be dealt with under the SAF Act:1972. Espionage is a serious offence.:bsmilie::bsmilie:

Try MS color. They may have stock.

Thanks. I went to CP this afternoon and happen o find they have the 120-400mm. Now only have to make up my mind to get it or not.

Hi,

Can share how the OS work?

Does it stabilise the lens whenever the camera is ON or only when the shutter release button is half-pressed?

Thanks in advance.

It is on when the camera meter is active. When it auto-off the OS also off. When you press the shutter to wake it the OS on again.

The picture quality that comes out from 150-500mm is very bad.. Best to get 120-400mm. I am getting 120-400mm soon!! for my indoor shooting and outdoor sporting events =)
Remember one thing, 150-500mm is very heavy, need a tripod. 120-400mm can be handheld. Its also heavy, but Aperture is big enough.

Hi Mushroom, have u tried the 120-400 and 150-500? How is it that IQ on 150-500 lose out to 120-400? at which focal length? appreciate your sharing ya.

Hmm? What sources say that the 150-500 gives bad picture quality? Did Pro-Mushroom inspire that? I really don't think the 120-400 will fare much better indoors compared to the 150-500. All are slow aperture lenses.

It is a bit laughable that you ask someone who did not get his lens designations nor his facts right, on his experience with both lenses. For all you know, he hasn't even tried out the right lenses.

Trying to say me eh? I like 120-400mm, but please dun use the 170-500mm thread to judge me. that's unfair. Anyway your words are harsh.

gunawan, cant answer you, only tried 170-500mm and 120-400mm, dunno about 150-500mm. Only tested in shop at close range so cant tell anything about the 120-400 also.

Erm, dat was quoted from mushroom, but i cropped it, too long. Calebk, u have experience wif the 120-400 and 150-500 at the longer range? How's the IQ from yr opinion. Various websites show bit of a variance. Some saying 120-400 soft at 300-400, most saying 150-500 quite sharp throughout, but there's this website which actually posts the photos and it seems the IQ is quite similar for both the 120-400 and 150-500 at the 300 and 400 mm FL range. erm, lemme see if I got bookmark the site and will repost later.

I really agree with Caleb.

Gunawan, i am afraid to say that the way you talk shows that you do not really know about the theory yet or understanding apertures and shutter speeds.

Please do more research before you condemn the lenses. And these lenses are not fast enough for indoor.

alamak knpan, u misunderstood me la dek. I shouldnt have replied using 'quote' from mushroom's thread. I was just asking mushroom on wat basis he judged these 2 lenses. (*slap forehead*)...:faint:

Hi zeddy, did u get the 120-400mm?

Haha! Poor gunawan ... a misunderstood bro. :bsmilie:

U guys, read before saying someone ... I only see 1 person blabbering nonsensical theories only ... :bsmilie:

If the $$ diff is $300there and about, go for the longer range.

BTW, the 150-500mm sure is tempting ... seen it live at Samuel's shop. Anyone interested? He has stock ... call 1st to confirm ya. ;) :)
