12-24 offers a focal range unlike any other lenses for 35mm format. You will be able to shoot photos which no one can provided you can "tame" it. Whether the lense is sharper than others is secondary to me as there is none other like it.

My decision was simple. Now, to find cash for it. ;p

Cheers!

True,
The only other consideration is on the 24mm end at a higher speed since I do feel that I need it at times for group shots of people in confined space.

Unless you are shooting ambient handheld shots, this lenses should suffice in other situations when flash is used or you can mount the camera to something. Also for shooting people, usually you shouldn't use big apertures which creates shallow DOF.

It is extremely wide (122 degrees FOV) if you ever get to try it out. The main uses of this lense is for interior and landscape photography. It is pretty hard to use such wide angle lense to take reasonably good shots. Most objects will appear so small that it becomes insignificant in the photo. Most likely you are going to have a hard time composing the shots or even find much use for the lense. But when you need it, there's no others like it.

Cheers!

I would really like to try it out but the store, as expected does not stock Minolta mount and I need to order it specifically.

Personally, I do like landscapes alot, how many times I wished I had it in my trips to Genting, Cameron and Fraser. Architectural shots are secondary.

One thing I hate about lenses are those distortions, it's amazing this one does better than the 15-30mm! Most of my pics are printed small (hence less consideration on the resolution) but I'm willing to spend on a nice landscape (12R), that's why I'm having such a hard time thinking thru, WA or resolution & contrast. ;)

The only problem is quality control of this lense. There are people complaining of differences in image quality taken from different units of this lense. Some said they tested a few before finding a good one. I doubt we have the luxury of testing a few of them. We would be lucky if we can find a store that has one. :sweatsm:

Very true, I found this only in one of the more 'expensive' camera shops. Charging me around RM$2600 if on cash terms ( cannot complain already ). By the time I buy this, who knows when I'll have enough money to test it by burning rolls of film and those enlargements as well.

I'm the anxious type, I know that a Tamron 28-75mm XR Di is a good upgrade from my cheapo 28-100(D) silver lens and its the one I use the most. Yet, I worry that the price of this 12-24 go up along in time because of the 12mm thing.

Hmm, RM$1600 is around S$700, seems like it's cheaper in Singapore. Can U confirm for me? I'll order it from Singapore on my trip out this nov.

If you are looking for Tamron 28-75, you might want to wait for the KM version of it.

Cheers!
