Shutter Sound is why I shoot Canon.

The Canon 1D series at full drive (8.5/10fps) is just music to the ears. ;p

I used to own the 10D - love the relatively quiet refined slap. Good for quiet places or for stealth.

i like the shutter sound of "the whispering queen" :)
why all people like shutter sound so loud ah... i prefer quiet one leh...

If you have it, flaunt it....nowonder rich people prefer loud things, Lambo, Ferrari, Harley Davidson etc

Shutter is a piece of gaffer tape

Nothing beats the sound of manual cameras, especially the pro N Models of the past.
But in terms of dslrs, my rank is:

1. N
2. C
3. S

Ironically I'm using S now :(
Just gotta bear with it

S = Samsung?

I got a D90 before and now that I switched to 7D. Yes, the shutter sound appears to be soft and muted and the D90 shutter sound is more "robust"..Getting used to the sound sound but it is a matter of getting used to it. Who cares if the camera can give you good pics.

It is more of a preference thingy than anything else i think

My view as a newbie. :)

lol well wad your fren said is true. i have a fren, mr wong...he went to nikon because the sound is better than canon. haha! for me sound doesn't matter. 50D sounds solid though. 500D is really muted kinda like the D90. i don't know about 7D. is it muted too?

best is as little sound as possible for me

The EOS-1 series is nice but loud... Had a shoot once in NLB library and it was an early one, for every shot made, we could hear the shutter sound reverb LOL. Another was during a press-conference, those 10 or so other photogs next to me were using 1-series and it was quite hilarious to see/hear how everyone started firing almost together the moment the speaker showed hand gestures or smiles and when not, it was all quiet. It was so loud that those 'burst' moments might have interrupted some of the words from the speaker and a few people from the audience actually looked back to see wth was going on. LOL.

That said, to me, having have crispy and fast sounding shutter tend to give me the feeling that I've captured the image at the right moment... though it's purely psychological. LOL. Like on the 5D, it's so clunky and slow that when I first got it, I kept looking at LCD to see if the image captured was at the exact moment and whether it's sharp...

love the sweet clicking melody of my 7d :D

Having said these, I can only imagine this being a deciding factor for someone getting a DSLR, like what on earth. LOL.

When a musician who values the pureness of the note buys a DSLR ..

We have heard music made from things like ringtones, to those radio signals you get when you put handphones near speakers... let's see if one can do it with DSLR shutter.

the shutter/mirror slap that makes me feel like a man is from the Mamiya RZ67.
PIAK!!!!!!!
Next up is the sound of a Copal shutter for large format lenses. Soft and beautiful leaf shutters.
I like my film Canon EOS 3 sound also, can feel the picture being taken.
haha

my C220 is the one that makes the right type of sound. no sound. :D

mirror slap? whats that? lol.

attention grabber is the 1 series. like cocking a M16.

Here is a video of the E1 shutter sound. For some reason it sounds louder on the video than in real life.

pardon me as I prefer absolute silence... anyway I can silence the shutter sound from my 500D?

Use P&S or Rangefinder lor... and nop, you can't do that on your 500D. Even the 'Silent' mode in 1-series is not completely silent.
