"My Gordy"

Camera : E-330
Lens : 14-45mm
Shot setting : Manual Mode
Remarks: No PP, only to resize.

Why I shot this?
- No apparent reason....... maybe it is the last shot from my e-330 before i officially retire it. New doesnt mean good, old cam still can kick arse!

Finally, there's the good old sun last Saturday, so before heading down to NDP Preview, decided to snap me some flowers.

Hi,
After a few years playing with P & S cams, this is my first serious system camera since November last year.
The two pictures are not PP in any way and not cropped. Only the photographer's name is added and size reduced for posting. They were taken along a grass patch near my flat with flowers on the plant and cam hand-held.
Senior and experienced members please C & C on my mistakes and advise me how I can improve on my flower taking adventure!!
Thank you.
LEW

Camera model: Panasonic Lumix G-1 M4/3
Lens used for these two Photos: Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 1:2.8/45 ASPH (sold as Lumix lens).
On board flash used.

#01 Pink Flower (Unknown name?)
4870625835_6a3bb119ef_b.jpg

Data: 1/160s f/10 ISO-100 Focal Length: 45mm.
On-board Flash with self-made diffuser.
Program: Manual. Spot metering. White Balance: Flash Mode

Comments:Flower slightly underexposed, can be corrected by adjustment curve in Photoshop. Focusing on flower pollen looks OK. Due to close proximity of cam and shallow DOF, flower petals and leaves towards the far edge are slightly blurred. The flower stalks and ground below are naturally blurred (bokeh) resulting in a dreamy appearance.

#02 Bougainvillea Flower
4870625615_9ec6bfaba2_b.jpg

Data: 1/125s f/9 ISO-100 Focal Length: 45mm.
On-board Flash with self-made diffuser.
Program: Manual. Spot metering. White Balance: Flash Mode.

Comments: Its funny few people ever notice the common Bougainvillea flower when observed carefully have small white flowers sprouting up in the centre! Background of stem and ground bokeh.

Whenever possible, share more about how the shot was taken, what camera was used, as well as lens, setting, some background, etc. to make this a real sharing gallery rather than just posting nice images. (This means EXIF data and shooting details and techniques used).

Thanks for noting this, and let the sharing begin.

Hi solstiz.
Your photos are very beautiful and I personally like all of them. Hope you can provide all relevant cam setting info and perhaps describe how the photos were taken to share with CS newbies like me, as requested by Moderator in post #01
Thanks you and cheers.

Read an article in a photo magazine and tried the technique of illuminating a flower with the LED light from my bicycle, then took it's pictures against a black background.
Not quite successful in making the petals appear 'glowing'.

solstiz, I'm impressed by your exposure control. Having tried it for the first time, I know now how hard it is to get fireworks right. Thanks for sharing!
