The thing is the auxiliary finder optics, also called a viewfinder attachment, optical viewing unit, eyes or goggles, for use with the M3. It enables a 35mm on the 50mm-only M3. The goggled version also works on all Leica M, including today's newest M7, MP and M9.

The one without the goggle (M2 version) is selling at more than double this version!!
