Should I upgrade?

now i got to ponder to get D800 / D600 / D7K T.T

He he

Get D800 for now have to wait on 3 weeks
Get D7000 maybe some store is ready stocks.
Get D600 wait more longer maybe next year :)

So how fast do you need ?

Within 1 week time you can learn a lots wow.

well yeah~ I guess so...I just need a newer DSLR which will not phase out in the next probably 3 years? cause I bought D70s in 2006 and it has been 6 years. Still working good except the 6MP is at it's limit :p and max ISO at 1600 if I am not wrong lol!

Do you guys think D7000 will be easily phase off soon? I want a camera which is magnesium alloy body, solid and rugged body like how the feel of 7D gave me. I usually do more of plastic models shots , some scenery and not much towards sport/fast moving object but Canon 7D together with lens are almost 3.3k X.x, if I can get a deal like within 2.4k with a kit lens, that will be good.

Compare with D7k, i got quoted almost 2.2k with lots of freebies :p D7k deal are more tempting

Cameras will be phased out soon, market pressure. But given you have held out since D70s, you need not worry. Pressure to move on will ease, as the improvements are tapering, smaller and smaller improvements. Don't look no need to worry.

In your case I suggest buying the body only and keep you 18-70 kit lens. Then explore adding a lens to broaden your scope. A telephoto zoom like the el cheapo 55-200VR ($200 used in bns), or 70-300VR are (maybe) within reach with your 2.4k budget. Or get a Tokina 12-24, Sigma 10-20 to explore the wide angle end, or get a 60mm micro or 105mm micro (buy used) to explore macro photography, or get an 85mm f/1.8G or 50mm f/1.8G to explore portrait.

Whatever you do, don't just throw away your kit lens and get another kit lens, unless you really have nothing else to spend on. Broaden your scope.

for me i have a D3100 with a kit len and a 55-200mm lens
but recently something happen and was advise that to use the D3100 till it KIA or nature dead.

so i went recon for cam.

for me i like taking landscape(oversea and locally) and some up close stuff (locally)
so i did some search and seen like D700 and D800 fit the bill

Get from clubsnap bns. Just that it is Pre-owned.

7D is like jumping ship. Unless you have owned several Nikon lenses, it's more costly for you to switch. 7D seems to me could "last" longer because of the professional build.

When I was getting my DSLR, I had two choices, either Canon or Nikon (too). I prefer Nikon due to the lenses and I like the ease of using their camera.
Try both of them and see which one you like it more.

Define what you need to achieve and what you expect out of a camera body for now to foreseeable future. Then see which camera meets ur needs and the most affordable camera that you can spare ur money on. Of course sticking to Nikon saves you the trouble to sell and buy, though not necessary saves u any money.

well I went down to Nikon showroom today and tried D7000, it is superb and also easy control/directional buttons which I am used to like D70s. As for Canon, it's good also but not used to the control pads and command dials. I am more towards Nikon more due to the price and also I have 3 Nikon lense on my hand now which I bought them when I purchase my D70s. No doubt D7000 suits me here except the size and ergonomic of D7000.

I like more rugged and big DSLR :p D7000 seems like a little smaller than my D70s lol. I brought my camera there and compared. D70s have better grip than D7000 but one thing , will getting a batterfy grip for D7000 will further enchance the grip? I know if I have to jump to Canon, I need to invest quite loads of money and 7D are not cheap :p

well conclusion, chances getting a Nikon is still higher . I mostly do landscape, figurines photography( plastic models) and probably portrait in near future but still I am learning and exploring because at that time getting D70s was just for dummy photography lol! I don't even thought of getting into serious photography.

By the way, the lenses I got way back then was a AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5g / AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8D / AF Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4-5.6G well are these lenses still good enough to get mounted onto D7000? cause now adays mostly are VR lenses.
Thanks for the help guys!

The 70-300G is the weakest of the lot. I have one and I rarely use it (The picture in my earlier post was shot with it BTW). It's very soft at 300mm and the D7000 will tax it quite a bit.
Since you're not planning to go FX anytime soon, I'd suggest that you replace this with the new 55-300 VR. The other 2 lenses would do just fine.

Then how about the weight and ergonomic after installed the battery grip for D7000? any D7000 user kindly help?

I find that the D7000 is a little small for my hands too but after adding the grip, the ergonomic is perfect. Not too heavy even when you load 2 batteries.

The D7000 fits me fine. And I have really big hands. Almost abnormally huge for my height.

And to add, moving from a Nikon D70s, every modern dSLR will be magical.

I moved from my Nikon D70 to a Nikon D300s, before moving on to having very frequent access to top end toys. The jump from the D70 to the D300s drove me wild. So be assured that any modern dSLR you choose will definitely be a great one.

The question should be while one suits your budget and which do you feel more comfortable with.

well honestly canon 7D feels the best compared to D7000 :p

Then just go get one :O haha pondering over this will not make the decision any easier. You can't go wrong with either

Then go for the Canon 7D. The 7D is a quantum leap over the Nikon D70s. You won't be disappointed.

As for your lenses, they are essentially the cheaper lenses. You can sell them off without incurring too much loss.

If what you're afraid of is that the bros in Nikon camp will slam you if you jump ship the. Rest assured that they won't. Well at least the more senior and wiser bros won't anyway ;P

well, I've give it a thought already and I would like to ask some D7000 bros a favor, anyone mind to meet up xD Maybe I can try out the battery grip. I guess I will settle for D7000 because both 7D and D7000 are pretty much on-par so why not use the extra money to invest in lenses?

Any bro could do a good deed have a meet up? xD I would love to hear from your experience and also try out the battery grip. I tried asking the agent whether they have a battery grip to test but they dont :p too bad.
