Should I buy my Canon 550D body + sigma lens at IT show or retail shop?

Aiya. We will nvr win the fashion. We will nvr out run technology. So what u buy now is expensive maybe wait for 10year u buy???

Big Budget can

i think it's ok to buy at IT show if hosted by big vendors like harvey norman or courts etc, but must check to make sure set is virgin, if not reject....
End Nov 2010 i wanted 60d and outside shop at that time 1399(8G and bag only ), at IT fair RRP 1599, I effectively paid 200 for( 1 more 8G, FREE 50mm 1.8(special thrown in), and spare batt, cleaner kit , tripod and screen protector) and what clinched the deal was interst free installment...less pain...sometimes the more senior sales person there will throw in better deal...just hesitate, show interest...hesitate...they may give u more freebies...do your sums ....

Like i mention those freebies dun worth the 200 or at least 80 cos the 50mm is already ard 120. A 8G sd card is dirt cheap these days. Your screen protector cost 5 bucks the most. Cleaning kit another 5 bucks. Filmsy tripod the most 30 bucks steinneser brand. The battery most probably third party cos the original battery will cost 80. Third party the most 30-40 bucks.

I rather pay this 200 more on a dry cabinet with loss change to spare.

Just treat it as interest for $80.

50mm 1.8 at least worth 90
battery i checked, about 50(can fit in original charger and show % charge)
8G say 20 bucks,
screen saver 5
clean kit got the pump blower leh should be at least 5 bucks
tripod not 30 buck type, independent open leg, ball head leh maybe 60 bucks
so about 200 heheh
so check out freebies at show and do the sums, if first time DSLR buyer, should be okay since u will need to buy the accessories anyway...

its your choice whether u want to pay "premium" for low quality stuffs.

if i want to buy, i will spend more to get a better tripod. Please read the importance of a good tripod and once you realise it, u spend again to buy another tripod. so what's the point.

cleaning kit? that's a joke seriously with wat they are giving (a cloth, some cleaning fluid, blower, only the blower is useful - that is provided they give u a good one, not something that u can easily "crushed" it within your palms, that's a lousy blower actually, a good one dun goes out of shape easily)

in the first place, a dry cabinet is more important then all these useless stuffs.

important things a first timer should get.

- camera kit set
- dry cabinet (or at least a drybox if u are hardworking enough to replace silica gels every 1-2 months or few months)
- good blower (a lousy one can give u more trouble later)
- lenspen (its better then a cloth)

next u can consider
- light and sturdy tripod
- more memory cards (entry level, canon promotion usually give u 1 free!)
- extra batteries (if u find yourself using up your 1 battery fast)

next level, u can consider
- new lens (according to your usage)
- flash
- creative filters (ND, GND etc)
etc

so in the first place, why are you being "forced" to buy a package which consists of mostly useless stuffs? This is typical sg mindset, "GIAN PENG". Just get what you need and important, the rest can wait. you can save those money buy something more useful.

Don't settle for those freebie tripod. The sight of your precious DSLR swaying in the slight breeze will make you forget all your $ reservations and fork out cash for a proper tripod.
