i had perfect eyes sight , but now old liao, i cant see bus number from a distance.

so no need to go see doctor right?do i go directly to spectacle shop? what is the average price now huh?

We do not know your medical condition. As such it would be irresponsible to tell you no need to see doctor.
What if you have cataract or glaucoma and someone here in CS told you no need to see doctor?

Some eye doctors are in private practice.
Some eye doctors can be found at Singapore National Eye Centre near SGH. Get your GP to give a referral.

Optometrists can test your eyesight and fix spectacles for you. They are not eye doctors.

Generally, stay away from big spectacle chain stores more interested in selling you expensive spectacle frames.
Generally, stay away from those spectacle shops where a salesgirl tests your eyes using a computerised machine in 2 minutes.

Go to a doctor first. Don't rely on the xmm who only know how to use that computer.

Mmmm.... does anyone actually go to see doctor to get the prescription??? How much would it cost????

I always went to shop... and they have... so call..... certified optician with degree, and diploma..... :think::think:

Go visit a doctor first - do an initial check up so at least you know nothing wrong with your eyes (other than near / far sighted etc).

Normally nowadays optician do both computerized and manual checking (where you wear that funny spec to read the small fonts on the wall).

By right a qualified Optometrist are trained to identify some common eyes illness. But due to nature of their work place, most of then after sometime their main job scope just to sell and do business. Most of them won't do extra steps to examine the health of ur eyes.
An optician can only prescribe glasses but not contact lenses, an optometrist (which graduated with a diploma) can.

Then of cos they are not doctor so a doctor will be a better person to seek advise.

Most shops that I go to usually follow-up with another step where they let you try the degree that the computer says you have and adjust the power and astig up or down by a bit to see which you feel more comfortable with, etc.

You can try to make spectacles first... Average price depends on what frame you choose, what lens you choose. Want branded frame price higher, want branded lens price also higher. :bsmilie: So it depends on what you want. If your degree is quite bad they will recommend that you take multicoated lens (thinner, otherwise the normal version will look super thick and ugly) which will cost slightly more.

multicoated is does not make the lens thinner, but clearer .

- kidney and/or liver disfunction
- nervous disorder
- early signs of a stroke if there is uncontrolled twitching
- stress or nervous disorder

There are opticians, optometrists and ophthalmologists

Good to know yourself WHY is your eyesight like this too ..... reading in low light? too much time staring at computer ? etc etc the results to your eyes will be obvious enough....

BUT If you are totally out of shape and in poor general health, better see a specialist ....
