Is it okay to buy stuff from Edison Electronics at Sim Lim Square? I mean do they really sell genuine products? Thank you very much!

can i know what you wan to buy from them?

dlsr lenses and mobile phones (possibly)

but there is so many other shops to buy at.. y risk to buy at somewhere that no one really know... SLS hv OP, AP etc... Funan hv John316, CP etc..

Unless they're selling you real cheap.. maybe you would like to list down what they hv quote you and compare with the pice list in CS.

they are selling Sony zoom lens 55-200mm for SGD290. I've asked the price from some stores and they're offering the same item for SGD370 and above. Where's AP, btw? thanks

Alan Photo, you can google, both at Sim Lim and Funan.

Be careful if the price seems too good to be true. There is always a catch...beware the bait and switch tactic or offering to sell you other items that you have no inkling at all of the prices.

Suggest you go to John 3:16 at Funan or Cathay Photo at Peninsula Plaza to get a fair price.

If you stilll want to go to Sim Lim, make sure that you know the prices of all the items you are going to buy. Don't buy anything you have not researched on despite them telling you the prices are good. Good luck!

I only prefer to buy at Orient Photo at SLS. Although the one of the salesperson has a f**kup face, but their reliability is good, service from other salepersons are also good (except that f**kup face one).

Agree that somethings are too gd to be true.
Check out SLR revo in Funan too.. They also got quite a range of Sony lens.

just remember not to buy overpriced filters, which they will try to sell to you

get the item in your hands and checking everything before parting with your money
don't trust them

And the overpriced wide angle converters which they call wide angle lenses...

Correct..

Here is one incident that i encounter:

Went there to ask abt filters and one of the shopkeeper recommend me the HD wide angle convertor @ $199 initially and i say i need to consider and he slash to $150 and after tat i say nah. He further slash to $99 (he said final price) and he say he is using 50D with it on and looks great but from the looks tat he handle DSLR think he dun know wheres all the button is. Guess what i found out its kind of cheaper outside haha lucky didnt buy from him which its an item i dun intend to buy too.

Second Encounter (My Friend's Father):

Intend to buy moblie fones there, look look see see and found a brand tat cost $799 then the shopkeeper say he can get a cheaper fone but without batteries, box, cables, mermory card ($499). Then my friend's father asked if to get all those item then how much. lol guess what all add up its more than the original amt. And best thing is they only have black color and no others color. If want other colors have to add abit more.

Hmmm all in all i will not go there to get anything.

Cheers

The best thing is he stressed and over stressed the HD Wide Angle Convertor is a Wide Angle Lens lol

Sim lim is a place to avoid if you don't know what you want, and how much it will cost.

The only way you can "outsmart" them is to be able to walk away if the final deal is not worth it.

Not very possible that you can get a good offer from them anyways, so you're better off "outsmarting" them now and don't even go near them.

Many other decent (and half-decent) shops in SLS.

Actually for people who has to come here to ask for opinions of the shops, my recommendation is don't bother with the unknown shops, just stick with the more famous one that CSers recommend here in the forum. The potential savings of dealing with the unknown shops is not great but the potential aggravation is far greater. The sickening feeling that you get cheated is not something you would want to experience, trust me...

End of November, when accompany my friend (an Arabic, but looks like angmoh) to purchase a DSLR, we asks some stores in SLS. Until we go to one store – which I forgot the store name - but somewhere in level-2. Since my friend looks like tourist, I ask him to waiting outside the store, so the shop will not chop us with the price. And also since my friend has no specific model in his mind, I help him asks the salesperson 3 models of cameras: Nikon D5000, Canon 1000D, and Sony A330. To make me surprise, the salesperson says: can I make up my mind before bugging them. Did I have money or not. If not, just stay playing with my cellphone camera. A bit angry, I walk out from the store. When my friend hears what happen inside, he going inside and asks the same thing. And double surprise me, the same salesperson service him like a king. But the price offered to him is incredible, for Canon 1000D as he remembered, they offered him 1599$. But since this is Xmas season, they offer 80% discount for 1280$, and further discount as rounding to 1200$ in my friend’s favor. Luckily my friend just wants to play with him.
The salesperson is a youngster, not fat but with chubby looks, and wearing glasses.

Thanks for all your replies. =)

BTW, I went to orient photo last weekend to buy a camera bag. The price is reasonable and I can't forget the face of the salesperson (it's like he's not happy that we're in the store) lol.
