[ Shopping ] - Price of E-PL1

Aiyo, so sad.

Here in S'pore u only get 2% off if pay by cash. When will there be big promo like in the US?

hi.. I have been researching on e-pl1, gf1 and lx5.. I am a newbie and venturing beyond a 3 years old 7MP Casio cam. My objective is to buy a 'better' cam, learn it and me and wife to take pics of mainly our young son and perhaps some landscape occasionally. In terms of size, I am ok with all 3 without lens. the kit lens of gf1 seemed large though many seemed to swear by the 20mm pancake lens. e-pl1 autofocus slowness seemed to be an issue but I dont know how it is with latest firmware. from various pics on sites, e-pl1 seemed to be most vibrant and I consistently like them. but i must say many many people/ reviewers swear by gf1. as for lx5, it seemed a gd logical choice for lesser $ and smaller size, and I cant really ignore it but perhaps it's my desire to own a more sophiscated cam that pushes me away from lx5. LOL.

so now.. i am not expecting anyone to tell me A is better than B. I would appreciate your questions.. to help me better answer and find out what I need. I too have some questions. Is 20mm pancake sufficient for my usage? can it fit into e-pl1? wondering if i can a 'best of both worlds' solution for now.. a small flat lens in a nice looking e-pl1 cam. hehe..

I don't get why is the LX5 an unsophisticated camera, it differs from the E-PL1 and GF1 in terms of features and sensor size but in basics, they both don't really differ.

You would appreciate our questions or out advice? 20mm is sufficient for maybe your son, landscape probably but not always, it can fit onto the E-PL1, you do mean "best of both worlds" right? All 3 cameras are completely capable cameras, question is, do you know what you want and how to use the cameras? Go out and try it for yourself, if you like the images from the E-PL1, go get it, if you find that focusing speed is needed, go for GF1, personally, I don't see what's with all the "Panasonic lenses has faster focusing" I agree that it may be faster (have not tried it for a long enough period of time) but I do not miss my shots often so it doesn't bother me, we can tell you what to get, I can tell you straight go buy a Nikon D3s and 24-70mm lens but it just wouldn't be practical right?

Like I've said, go out and try it for yourself to decide if you like the camera

thanks mod.. I do mean your questions so that I can answer it myself. like u said, do we know how to use it? wife is unlikely even if she is willing to learn. LOL. I would love to learn. gd to know the 20mm fits and I mean best of BOTH worlds. a new lx5 is abt 660 while a few months old e-pl1 is abt 900. i figured perhaps e-pl1 or gf1 can give me more flexibility IF I wan to upgrade.

as for trying, i visited the big store at taka and didnt recv too gd advise. I am near funan, so would u think tk or slr will grant time to show me?

Not so sure about TK and SLR Revolution, but Harvey Norman has always given me pretty good service, can try looking for Freddy if he's around or Bernard, a few months old E-PL1 for about 900 is expensive considering a new one can cost like $899 IIRC

Anyone has the latest BEST price of the epl1? twin lense kit? or single lense? thx!

single lense kit i just checked is S$840

double lense kit is around 1200 + some extra accessories but not so worth it

I'm thinking of getting the Panny 20mm for my white E-PL1 too but I was a little concerned how they would look together. After scouring the internet I gave up empty handed until now so a big THANK YOU is in order! To me the kit lens is better colour matched but it's a tradeoff i'm willing to accept for better performance and a thinner profile. Unless somebody starts making silver/white coloured Pannys for white E-PL1 owners :D
Where can i get the Panny 20mm for $550?

Which shop did u check with for $840 w/ single lens kit?

Thanks!

Careful there bro make sure there's no hidden cost... normally they sell cheap then they say no batteries etc etc....

Do you homeworks 1st before venturing to those places else might get your neck on the chopping board.... Even Sim Lim I only go to those recommended shops
