Shopping for leica in HK lately?

Any body has experience buying leica stuffs in HK in the recent months? i was told me that it can be very unpleasant if you walked into the wrong shops in recent months. So far the services I received were fine, nothing too warm and super-friendly, but I gather that’s a norm given HK’s fast pace, but they get things done.

I figure the unfriendly shops may be focusing on tourists only, and I don’t look like a tourist, not the targeted group. Is there anywhere that I should avoid or visit? Any good or bad experience?

Thanks

I was at LH photollection during November. It seems like there's a major change in the shop. The shop size shrunk, the staffs were not around anymore. The older staffs were friendlier, the newer ones like you said just wanna get things done. I also went Man Shing they were too busy to be friendly as the whole store is super crowded.

My best experience was at Breguet Camera, it's in some building in Tsim Sha Tsui I believe, though can't remember address, along with another shop and a Leica lens doctor. Granted I went there while on the Overgaard photo workshop so they might have recognized Thorsten. And they sell only used gear, but it's good hunting for older lenses like the 50 f/1 and 35/1.4 AA(I personally bought an old 50/2.8 Elmar from them and had some problems with my DBS mastercard, but they were very patient and accommodating despite the long wait). Jojo was the girl running the place, she was really friendly and she knew her stuff. When I asked about the Elmar, she not only mentioned a scratch on the lens(which I still can't locate), but also that it was the older Elmar with the moving aperture ring. I didn't even know that!

There were other regular camera shops along Stanley street like Tin Cheung. Friendly, took the time, but I believe it's more of a "you-don't-look-like-you'll-buy" sort of attitude(I usually walk in with my M9, since I'm on holiday after all, but while they recognise your camera, it still doesn't mean you'll buy something).

As for the dedicated Leica boutiques, service was always impeccable.

I believe those 'unfriendly' shops are those found somewhere in Causeway Bay or other places with the big "CANON" or "NIKON" logos and flashing lights. I went into one of them once to buy a memory card and got told off that they don't carry SD because it's inferior to CF. Oh well!
