Shooting for a wedding... Thoughts??

Folks,

Helping a buddy shoot for his wedding tomorrow evening. Of course, he will still hire his pro photographer and I am just there to help out with some shots.

Here's my thoughts on the gear to bring:

1. Canon 5dm2 with 24-70 f2.8L lens - Heavy bugger with the battery grip and flash included! Trying to avoid this but I can use my R lux on it with adaptor

2. M8 with VC 35 f1.2. Fast lens but worried not fast enough for dinner setting. In my opinion, anything above ISO320 sucks on the M8 unless I go b&w then I can push it higher.

3. Would prefer to bring a film camera and I do like films!!! besides, it will be nice to do this for my buddy which is something different. Looking at M6 with Canon 50 f1.5 or Leica R4s with 50 lux and slides film. Will ISO400 films be sufficient?

4. Hasselblad 503CW?

What do you guys think? Prefably, I like to keep it slim cos' I would prefer to enjoy the wedding dinner and not lug all these gears around.

I'm not familiar with Leica and film.
How about just 5D mk ii with a fast prime for embience lighting?

Thanks bro... I've already downsized my Canon gears. Fast prime is the 85 f1.8, Leica R - 50 f1.4 n f2.0.

The latter will probably be too slow due to manual focusing.

Hi Bro,

Your friend's pro will probably have all the gears for the 'usual' wedding shots. Why not go with film or M8 with one or 2 of your sonnars to get a different look and feel to the event? You may not get a lot of keepers, but those that make it would be something different and worth treasuring.

Enjoy your dinner, my friend!

How about the M8 along with the R4s? The M6 would be a very good choice if you can meter quickly. Personally, prefer to shoot with aperture priority during weddings because I tend to meter a bit too slowly :embrass:

A couple of Leicas would definitely be less bulky than the Canon with grip. And more importantly, you're there to enjoy yourself so no need to lug something so heavy ;p

For film, guess you are referring to colour negs? If that is the case, see if you can get the Press 800; pretty good and not too grainy for me. But the latter is a bit subjective.

Personally, I would just shoot with the m8 and the 35 f1.2. I think you're bringing waayyy too much equipment and the focus seems more on gear. Just focus on the image, your concept for the shoot and the equipment needed to fulfill that concept. All that gear is going to confuse you more than help you.

Yeah... Same thought. I may just set my M8 to shoot B&W jpg and RAW on a Canon 50 f1.5 or 1.2. The M6 or R4s with films. Trouble is both bodies are already loaded with ISO400 films now.

Yeah thought about that too. Press as in agfa?

I an used to lugging two bodies around anyway. Likely the M8 with 351.2 n M6 or R4s with a fast prime.

Can't go without films.;)

With all these gear, you'll probably end up better equipped than the pro :)

Agree with the folks here to travel light (whatever that means to you) and enjoy the dinner. Watch out for possible WB issues with the flash.

Nope, Fuji Press 800. Can be found also as Fuji Superia 800. There is also a 1600 version :)

Maybe you just rewind the films and load in new roll of TX (rate it to 800) and another roll of delta 3200 ?
I think since you have a hunch for film, just leave the digital entirely at home and go there with 2 film bodies with 2 lens at diff focal lengths.

Bring a trolley and.... Everything..... When in doubt shoot first ask questions later...:bsmilie:

since there is already a pro there...why not jus go for fun shooting? stressless...if im u, i will try alternative photography..shoot in film!

why wan to go challenge the pro with ur gears?:)

If it's just shooting during the dinner, bring your M6 and the 35/f1.2, load in a 400 colour or B&W. At least at low ambient light, you can shoot at 1/30 and still get decent not too grainy shots.

If there is solemnization, use a hassey. The people will probably keep still for you to take. And you can get plenty of nice portrait shots with a 80/f2.8.

Bring just one body. The more gear you bring, the less pictures you take. :)

Hahah... True true. Will consider. Hassey is out for now. I've wanted to take his church ceremony but unfortunately, I will be stucked at home playing with my baby girl.

One camera, one fast lens.:)

Bring a lens that exhibits the glow on highlights... brides make a superb subject for such lenses due to their outfit ;)
