Shipping Film to SG

I recently got back to film photography, and realised that shops here no longer carry my favourite Velvia 50 in 35mm format. I used to love it for its beauty in reproducing landscapes and scenery. So the other day I was about to buy stuff from Amazon, and I thought about ordering a pack of 10 Velvia 50 and Ekatar 100 film (and maybe some Superia 400/800) and shipping it to Singapore.

Has anybody had any experience in ordering film from the US and shipping it here? How did the film turn out? I understand that shipping it here would mean the film going through multiple xrays at airports and customs, so will the film get destroyed by the xrays?

Try Ruby Photo. I just bought a roll of Velvia 50 from them yesterday.

I agree to try Ruby first. Amazon's Velvia is pretty expensive. On your fears of the x ray, it's fine. I usually buy my film from the US and get them shipped over. So far no problem.

I used to buy almost all my film and paper overseas, but now I'm only buying 100ft bulk roll abroad. I find that it's better to support local shops if the price diff isn't too much. We need to give them biz to keep it going

Ruby Photo still has them in 35mm? The last time I dropped by Ruby, they said that they no longer sell in 35mm cos of low demand, only selling in larger format.

Overseas may be cheaper. I bought a few before online. But after shipping cost and the time waiting, I figured it's better to support local shops here though the relatively higher price.

Went there today to send some C41 for development. They have stock for Velvia 50 and Velvia 100 indeed.

Is it safe to ship any kind of film? Or is there a limit to the ASA before the film gets fogged by customs X-ray?

I've shipped iso 1600 film by post before, no issues..

The slide film demand is dying in SG. Some 3~4 years back, i have to buy from overseas because neither Cathay Photo, Ruby Photo nor Fotohub brings in Velvia 50 in 120 format.

Currently, there is no consumer lab in SG doing slide processing apart from analog film lab.

Sad situation. I guess one day i have to mail my slide films to overseas for processing.

Yes, they no longer develop slides. Some places still cross-process slides, but only analog film lab develops slides.

I think they still do. Few months ago, I had a roll of my fujifilm developed there. They do black and white too, but slightly more expensive. I would recommend going to to triple D instead if you're looking at developing black and white.

Velvia isn't negative.... It's positive (slide) film. I'm assuming you know what the difference is.

Ruby photo at Excelsior carries Velvia 50 and 100, but it depends on stock. Analog film lab develops slide film and you can buy a new roll of slide film from them for every roll you send in.
