Five Bar Swordtail (Pathysa antiphates itamputi )

The Malaysian & Singaporean subspecies of the Fivebar Swordtail has the distinction of being one of the few butterflies in the region to bear a local name.

From the Malay words " hitam" meaning black, and "putih" meaning white, Latinized to form the subspecies name of " itamputi ".
