Dear All,
Thank you for sharing the many great shots!
BTW, may I suggest the set-up information for the shots be listed together with your shots in future?
Eg. like: ISO, shuttle speed, Aperture, focal length, flash?
Better still, includes inform like which model of camera/lens used.
From this, we may be able to know how well we can take our pictures and how far the camera/lens can go.

Cheers!

You probably will hear this 1001 time, but settings are variables which changes according to the environment, same goes to equipment, some can achieve good results even with point and shoot camera.

However, try the following
- aperture at f8 for sufficient DOF
- shutterspeed 1: length of lens for stability
- dedicated macro if u have one

Thank you for the the pointers.
I wil try your suggested setting.
Cheers!

I'll have to agree with Simon. The settings are variable depending on the context of the environment, the subject, and what you want to achieve. For example, I would have to dial up the ISO when taking photographs under the forest canopy in contast to shooting in a grassy plain on a bright sunny day. As for the fstop, i usually just have just enough to cover the butterfly, to get that nice OOF creamy background. IMO, butterflies are more or less 2d, so u dont need a high DOF to cover the whole subject. However, there are exceptions, like when the wings are not fully closed. To be very honest, I dont think that a better camera would produce a better shot, it just makes life easier with the technological advances such as higher noise handling. Hope this helps!

Behind every shot posted here there is a story of patience and perhaps lots of hard work and foot work involved...

This one took me 5 hours, involving a 8 km round trip trek up a steep hill in Malaysia ......
