aahh... old kampong.... i miss the char kway teow from there... anyone know where the uncle move to??
The old uncle used to sell prawn mee at the OLD OLD Soy Eu Tua. His store used to be at the front. Then they renovated, some how, his helper, kana retrenched. When the NEW Soy Eu Tua (version 1) came out, the old uncle switch his business to selling Char Kway Teow. Everytime I visited him, I ping him when he is going back to frying his Hokien Mee (honestly, his Hokien Mee is    , better than his Char Kway Teow. He said: "Hokien Mee needs alot of time to prepare, now only left him, so he has to fry Char Kway Teow instead, which requires less preparation time."

Now, NEW Soy Eu Tua (version 2), I haven't visited them since... so not sure whether the old uncle is still there. But I think he stays somewhere in Lucky Heights. I used to see him cycle on his old China Raleigh back home when I was still a 10 year old school boy....

From what I know... before Siglap bacame so "upmarket", Soy Eu Tua used to be a place for gangster hang out...

I missed the old Siglap market that is the Siglap Centre & Cold Storage now... used to buy guppies at the corner aquarium.... and the old Cinema which I used to pop by after school for a $1.20 movie... that was some 25 years ago.... and the shop/house down the road beside the barber & framemaker shop which also sell fishes.... Can anyone recall the cinema name? :bsmilie:

The cinema near Roxy square now I think is call Odean Katong. Then they pull down and built a new Odean Katong opposite which is now Corner Stone. I still remember watching "Dong Fang Bu Dai" during my army days some 16 years ago...

Roxy cinema is near Selegie Road which turned into ice skating ring in the 90's.

Can someone verify? My memory is fading....

Since we're going down memory lane. Anyone remember the old open air cinema in Joo chiat? near the old joo chiat market. I have wonderful memories of that place as a kid.

Can't remember the name too... I think that was about 30 years ago... open air cinema disappeared before I had a chance to visit them. :bsmilie:

I think it would be fun to list out all the old cinemas and then we go shoot the buildings that have taken over them today. :bsmilie:
