ZoomP : the Canon is best stopped down. wide open there is a certain softness. The Nikkor is sharp wide open as can be seen, but it does have flaring/halo. Canon also gives a warmer tone IMO compared to the Nikkor. The current CZJ 50/1.5 (1936 vintage) is however wicked. It beats both the Canon and the Nikkor in terms of the images it produces. attached one image.
