Hi,

I am planning to buy a lens for my nex camera, namely the 50mm f1.8

I checked the price at alan photo funan is 378sgd whereas at SLR-revolution is 300sgd.

The price different is so much , so i was wondering which one should i get?
I have bought a lens from alan photo before and its good. But, I also notice that SLRR also has a good reputation.

The official price from sony store is 417sgd.

Thanks a bunch

If SLRR has lower price, then buy from them.
I have bought lens from them before, they r reliable. service not bad too, able to give good advice.

Get from SLRR then.

Anyway, SLRR is very reputable... but be sure to ask if they include GST to their SGD300. Some shop from what I know, don't include the GST, this is because they catered to tourists and foreigners too whereby these people could get GST refund in the airport so it is more accurate for them to look at price without GST.

I recall a discussion about mobile phones some years ago where some gov officials made it clear: quotes without GST are illegal. The fact that tourists can get back the GST is an exception, not the standard. So quotes should fulfill standard requirements = GST included. Everything else stinks fishy and is nothing but a disguised 7% profit markup at the expense of the customers.

In addition here are the links to IRAS:
For customer: IRAS: Buying from a GST-registered business
For businesses: IRAS: Displaying prices

All my quote from Cathay Photo had this small print underneath

"Please note that the price(s) quoted are subject to 7% GST and valid for a
period of 1 week from the date of this email, after which any changes will
be made without prior notice."

And from what one of the salesman told me that I need to multiply 7% to the price that quoted me for the item. I believe some of the shops would give you a price, then add some statements underneath to indicate whether there is a 7% GST included in the price given or you need to do your own maths to multiply the GST in yourself.

So it is important to read the entire email properly or you might be mislead to thinking that the price quoted are with GST.

i kanna chop at Alan Photo so i will avoid them except the item i want is not available in other shops and i really need it at the moment.

Well..from my observations. SLR always seems to be the cheapest. They are not bad too..
And definitely i would buy from them over the former.. even if both offer me the same price.

SLRR got one sweet xmm, so I always go there now.
SLRR's price also quite good compared to other shops.

Slrr is less intimidating than alan photo, i personally feel.

Ok,

I will get it form SLR then. I was scared cos the price if below market average. No GST for sony lens btw for now.
Thanks alot guys.

Cheers

Stay away from Alan photo. Read up my posting about them.

Go for SLR Revolution especially if the price includes GST and the product has local warranty (don't think they carry grey products anyways).

I have never gone back to AP after they quoted me $300 more for one lens compared to what 3 other shops were selling the lens at. This is even after I informed them that the other shops were selling for $300 less!

SLRR only accepts CASH/NETS. this might be the reason why they tend to be slightly cheaper. Another thing is that it is worth the time to walk ard the mall to scout the prices.:bsmilie:

Well...I'd say it's SLR-R:thumbsup:...in fact, I just went over yesterday to purchase my EF-M 11-22+Carl Zeiss-T*-Cir-Pol.& step-up-ring...ever since I know them for their :thumbsup:prices(...frankly as in best$$$ that I could find...!!) and with :thumbsup:customer service(...since I really fancy how I was being served each time and often...whenever I'm there for my gear/s...Well-Done:thumbsup: bros & sis...!!;)), as well as wide range of products available...!!

Btw, before that, I used to shop/buy at CP...not now as same products but different $$$$$ not by just abit ok and their customer service were inconsistent as in depending on which salesperson you get with...(...so far all my items bought at SLR-R were with Local-Warranty unless certain item/s not covered within the manfr's as warranty la...hahahaa, and fyi, I've so far never buy/try any "grey" equipements not even any accessories...!!!)

Actually the tourist only get back about 5% of the GST, 2% is charged by the agent as admin fee in the airport.
