Used a 17-55 in Malaysia. It was more than adequate, restricted myself to somewhere <30mm.

I believe your 17mm prime should be alright.

i no budget
so brought along kit lens 18-55 with a 0.5x wide angle adaptor when i was there heehee
but i use 18 mostly and then crop from there.
