SGTrekker's Photos from 6D5N Central Vietnam Photography Tour (10-15 Feb 2012)

After we left Dong Ba market, all of us went to a restaurant which is 5 mins walk from our hotel.

The dinner were accompanied by an imperial court music, named Nhã nhạc (in vietnamese).

Banana women by fotovu, on Flickr
Whilst having Saigon coffee, we were approached by these 2 ladies who posed nicely for us. In return, we had to buy the bunch of bananas (Danny, Derek & I ended up eating 4 bananas each & was too stuffed for dinner after that)

Actually there are so many things to shoot and we have a lot of time. So we went out to the main road to shoot panning shots.

Day 2: Hue - The Citadel

Allow me to move slightly forward to Day 2 while the rest of our members get ready their photos for Day 1 and Day 2.
We woke up after a good night's rest to a wonderful sight at our hotel...

The Citadel and The Purple Forbidden City

Hue is the ancient capital of Vietnam from 1802 to 1945, and it is here where the old Emperors of Vietnam built their fortress and the Purple Forbidden City.
Modelled after the Forbidden City in Beijing, the strong Chinese influence was unmistakable.
And in every similar aspect, the Purple Forbidden City of the Citadel held the Harem of the Emperor and only the Eunuchs were allowed entrance.

Here, our good LowLights was monitoring the traffic going into the huge doorway of the Citadel, ensuring that the rest of the team members had a safe walk into the fortress.

So while he watched over, the young ladies of the group were able to enjoy their shooting outside the Citadel...

Crazy. Sheer craziness! LOL!

Walking in the Citadel...

Wah... the place is also quite big yah.....
Walking around searching for angle with the Noctilux in hand, was none other than our Marble-head.

... A Vintage Fortress, shot by a Vintage camera, on Vintage film...

Even before arriving in the ancient capital of Hue, I have envisioned myself shooting the old, nostalgic building of Hue on an old 1946 camera, with old colour film.
In disregard to the colour shift, the loss of speed on the film, I thought it would have been quite fun.
Well.... for what it's worth..

.. AlexK the portrait master giving me the thumbsup...

The Citadel has fallen into disrepair after a great part of it was damaged during the war.
But a recent initiative saw reconstruction efforts being stepped up.
It was not big. And we found ourselves hitting the perimeter walls quickly.

Some of the old chambers...

Khai Dinh Tomb

"Actually, Khai Dinh Tomb is pretty small. But it's just a place that you guys have to visit since you're here in Hue.
So we will take a trip there to shoot some shots.. It's a little touristy, though..."
said Adrian.

No problem, Adrian.
Knowing this group of jokers... give us a scene and we will make the most out of it to shoot something.
So while Group 2 arrived at the Citadel after their morning tour of Khai Dinh Tomb, Group 1 went over to Khai Dinh Tomb...

Francis Chia shouted from on top: "Hey guys, you all come up here and let's all pose here together!". Yes he really said that. So all the boys walked up the steps.
And they saw all the statues standing there. Some smart boy started slinging his rangefinder around one of the statues' neck and everyone followed!

6903065033_a8c2a4565c_b.jpg

and then they all pose beside their camera and statue.

Wow.. they created quite a scene. Even some China tourists also came and take photos of this rare sight.
