... arriving at Rojak Lane.

I know Group 2 were on their way to Rojak Lane and Tanjong Uma already, while we in Group 1 were zig-zagging our way to Hotel Triniti to check in first.
But still, I thought I'd better quickly come to Rojak Lane first so that most of the shooting action can start. And where, I am sure, many of my fellow team mates have their photos all prepared.
Here is a Google Earth map showing where Rojak Lane is in relation to the Batam Centre Terminal where we were at.
Noticed that I didn't do any zig-zagging here because my brain GPS failed to register the path... haha... (of course, my Garmin GPS was still doing its job perfectly...)

So... what is Rojak Lane?

Itinerary for Day 1

Before we move on any further, let me just list down our itinerary for the Day 1 trip..

• Arrive at Batam Centre
• Proceed to Rojak Lane to enjoy the local Rojak (with a difference)
• Proceed to the fishing village Tanjong Uma to appreciate the 'unique' scenery and to capture them permanently on photos...
• Have lunch at Nagoya Hill - the newest shopping mall
• Proceed to another fishing village Belakang Padang on another island, Pulau Penawar Rindu, to shoot fisherman throwing net with the sun setting in the background.
• Dinner at Golden Prawn 933.
• Own time own target - Massage for some, shopping for others, and Zzzzzzzz for the rest...

Enjoying rojak along Rojak Lane

David, our local Indonesian guide, was saying both in Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia:

"The local Rujak is different from what you all have in Singapore. Here, don't ask for Yau-zhar-kuay to be included and the hawker would most likely don't know what you are talking about when you say that. Here in Batam, our Rujak are prepared from fresh fruits - Balonglong, pineapples, mango, jambu, cucumber... etc.. and they are more spicy. You can have your own choice of fruits. It costs around 7000 rp (S$1) per packet. And the hygiene is fine. No problem with those along Rojak Lane.​

Ok lor.. guide says can eat. We will all eat lor.
This Rojak Lane is simple a stretch of Rojak hawker stalls lined along the side of a main road.
The colourful stall decorations and the very relaxed stall holders belies the fact that this is actually an area frequented by the locals, although originally I really thought it was just another tourist attraction thingy. But apparently I was wrong. For not long after we arrived, there came a group of young students to enjoy their Rujak...

And all started busying ourselves with the most important job at hand. No, not eating.. but shooting!

And to those who are un-initiated to the style of SgTrekkers... the seemingly non-stop snapping action of some of the members can be a little bewildering...

And er, ahem... our regular fish-enjoying Mr Reservoir88 constantly thinking of his fish...

... and our good friend Nleong simply can't wait to devour his share of the spoils...

Seems like the hand needs to install some kind of Parkinson stabiliser. But I would rather believed the captain was skillful to navigate the tsunami.

Thanks anyway to the SGtrekkers team as well as the participants of the trip. I had an enjoyable time in Batam, as I didn't expect Batam to have so much nice stuff to photograph.

I'm not too sure how to put photos up in Clubsnap, however, I've put my photos up in Facebook. Those who were with me during the trip, feel free to add me as a friend so that you'll be able to see the photos!

Second packet had a what looked like a half eaten caterpillar...

hmm obviously we stopped eating after this..

Sg Trekker (Adrian and Melvin) - once again, well done.. though is a bit short, I guessed we all had lots of fun.. lots of things to see.

Here are some of my contributions

It was really a very different taste of the rojak.. I liked the paste and the fact is a healthy fruit rojak. My plate of rojak is without chilli padi as I am afraid my fren cant take so spicy, so it tasted very sweet but is nice.

This stall earned the most as majority of us bought from him.

Melvin very happy with the rojak

Amazing so many stalls there. David, the guide said initially was only one stall, then many started to come and park their stalsl there. So later it becomes a landmark and famous, people call it rojak street loh.. Manily locals go there but I think now many tourist know about this place.

Those of us in Group 1 must have walloped our food without looking carefully into them... er, I won't be surprised if ours had some added ingredients inside too!
