hi, anyone knows how much it will cost to set up a photo (printing) shop? how much will the equipment cost?

i think the printing machine alone costs more than $100,000.

If you're interested, I got an email last week about taking over an Agfa lab. Not sure how long ago the email was drafted, and whether the offer is still valid. Hope it's not a prank either, but the seller sounds sincere enough. If you want, I'll go recover my deleted email.

A Fuji Frontier 350 costs about S$250,000. No small sum.

I also got a spam mail from someone offering me to take over an Agfa lab.

sounds very interesting. but i wonder how much profit they can actually make. I am keen to set up a small digital lab and to provide a much more friendlier and efficient services. But, I need really consider the costs involved. thanks all!

it's not easy to run a printing shop if all u get are customers who are looking for cheap prints(like 30cts offered by KT?)profit is ard 12-15cts per print only.
how many prints must u print daily to cover all expenses, salaries, machine instalment?do ur maths carefully and proceed only if u are fully prepared.
:)

well, thanks for the advice. i am actually looking to join kodak franchise. maybe they can advise on business lookout or potential. I guess it is gonna be tough but there is nothing greater than running your own photo shop!

my biggest concern is the machine as it takes up a major part of costs.

The email I got is the same as ckiang's.

The latest digital machine from kodak is actually System 89, a French machine made by KIS which will set u back ard 165k,or a used system 88 which will be cheaper.Alternatively,u can buy ur machine from Noritsu which will cost 168k for a digital machine,u might wanna include in a film developing machine which will cost u ard 30- 40+k range.
when u join a franchise, they will usually pay for ur renovating, give u a free set of maybe 20 rolls of papers and 2 sets of chemicals,u will have to stock up ur shop with films, batteries etc urself..
Regards

thanks for the advice again everyone. as far as i know, the franchise fee costs S$87k! unless there is a better reasons to join as franchisee, otherwise, it makes sense just to buy the machine. inevitably, digital is the way to go although it costs more. once again! thank you!

u might wanna consider 2nd hand printer. A shop owner told me that he bought his first Fuji printer new at RM100k (cheap and slow). Later he upgraded to a much better machine 2nd hand (also sell by Fuji) at RM120k+- (new one cost double). Many are moving towards digital printer (frontier), thus Fuji takes in those trade in printers (analog) and refurbish them and resell at low price.

There are too many frontiers around, competition is fierce especially nowadays you (in Singapore) have to fight market with Johor print shops (I heard they come to Singapore to collect the slides/negatives/files and bring back to JB to print and return next day. Price is half as compare to Singapore).
