I got this Canon 50 f1.8 Serenar. But it seem like its not a very popular lens here in Cs. Most of the time I heard Sonnar is good but what about this Serenar?

Anyone wan got photos taken by the Serenar pls share it with here...")

Can anyone share more light on this type of lens?

Serenar is the name of earlier Canon RF lenses. It's not a lens design, unlike Sonnar.
Most 50mm lenses are of the Planar design or a variant of it. A lot of the older 50mm f2 are nice.

+1 Gommy

the 50/1.8 is a very beautiful lens. small and its called the summicron of the canon lens...

i had the 1.4, 1.8 and 1.9. I found the 1.9 to be the cutest. the 1.8 to be the sharpest and the 1.4 to be unique.

There is a forummer here who collects lots of canon lenses...:) and even the same lenses if im not wrong...hehe

To me, i love all the canon lenses, i had the 1.8, de 1.4 and they are amazing lens that i am so reluctant to let go...not even thinking of letting them go...:)
Try shooting them in black and white n u will love them...

this is a serenar 50/f1.9 collapsible lens on a leica cl.

There are actually a lot more old Japanese RF lenses out there other than the Canon and Nippon Kogaku(Nikkor).
Tanaka Kogaku(Tanar); Fujinon, Avenon, Konishiroku(Hexar, Hexanon), Chiyoko(Minolta), Sankyo-Koki(Komura), Tokyo Kogaku(Topcor), Teikoku Kogaku(Zunow), Olympus(Zuiko), Rollei, Pentax

I definitely have a huge list of lenses I want to try. Ought to save up and try to hunt them down. Got to try them all! :bsmilie:

I got the (Later) Canon 1.8 in chrome. Bloody amazing lens!

When you buy lenses branded as Serenar, you need to be more careful with the optical quality. They are almost always all chrome and made of brass except the 100mm f/3.5. These older lenses are much heavier than the later Canon branded aluminum barrel counterparts.

On the LTM mount, you can find 28, 35, 50, 85, 100 and 135 mm options of various aperture.

just noticed this thread, and the canon 85/1.8 in the pic...

heh... i came across an old 85/1.8 on ebay just now. but it is all the way in south africa and takes abt 1mth to ship... :hung:

would anyone recommend the canon 85/2? i came across a copy of it. but with the added accessories like lens adapter, it is abt the price of a leica 90/2 pre-asph that i saw on ebay.

nightwolf75, buy the 85 finder on rff classifieds.
