Just for your info, every IPOD is a "refurbished" model ... quite scary after what my friend related to me what happened.

okie.. DAT, i din know... :o

Slow? Hmm ... slow as in focus lock? Or just writing RAW files? ... interesting ... didn't know that

the AF performace is roughly similar to F80. wat most people dun like is the slow read/write speeds of fuji RAW, the burst rate and the huge RAW file size. the huge file size came abt cos of the amt of info captured by the fuji SuperCCD sensor. u can read abt it in all reviews.

then again, as most fuji users will say, they use fuji cams to shoot jpgs. also, s2/s3 are highly specialised cameras - their target audience are wedding and portrait shooters, mainly. so, judging from wat u shoot, i say fuji cams might not be suitable.

Its not that i looks nice, i'm after the image quality. I don't mind the weight, that's the thing. Found limitations when shooting indoors already (quite a few times) .. and a few situation where my "C" lens hunt like mad... quite sick of all this nonsense...

well, then u have to ask urself (a) is there a current work-around ur present equipment 'limitations' - ie, any way to stretch ur dollar on ur current equipment, and (b) is 70-200/f2.8L the best option/value-for-money? do u need the 'image quality', and for wat purposes - personal? commercial? etc..

look at me. i also wanted image quality, and went off to get the f4L. oh yeah. it delivered alrite. the images produced (all things being equaled) worth every penny dat i paid for it (2nd-hand). after a while, i realised dat i shot more often with my tokina 28-80/f2.8, which while not as sexy or prominent as the f4L, was far easier to use and carry ard. and, most imptly, still produce reasonably acceptable images dat i want (tho, of course, not as nice as f4L lah. u do get wat u paid for). i dun earn a cent from my hobby. so, after a while, i figured i was actually wasting a fair bit of $ on getting the f4L.

even now, i have the 80-200/f2.8. even since getting it, i can count on 1 hand the times i actually used it. i still find myself using my tokina 28-80 more often. (which is why, despite the best efforts of Mr BBB, i'm NOT getting the VR :sticktong ).

so, think abt it b4 plonking hard-earned cash on it. ;)

depending on my school work... i can't promise edwin also until i know the outcome tomorrow... my fussypot lecturer just rejected my proposal again, tomorrow's the deadline. going to school later to ask her what sort of "perspective" she wants ... can really vomit blood. This angle cannot .. that angle cannot ... lecturers are really a troublesome bunch.

Well said bro. Sometimes you have to look long and hard whether you would need that particular lens for what you want to shoot. I think sports and events shooters benefit the most from this range of lens. Its not for everyone however. I think you have hit the nail on the head when you said is it the best value for money dollar by dollar. Think abt the no. of times you are really gonna use it, if its just like once a fortnight or once a few weeks kind of thing, is it really justifiable to spend such a huge amt. of money on one lens?

It is also rather big and heavy (and prominent too, due to the white), no escaping that fact, so you must be willing to lug it around with you wherever you go.

All things, including price, aside, the lens of this range still produces phenomenal results, you get what you pay for, bokeh, speed of AF, most important of all image quality.

Btw nightwolf, u using the nikkor 80-200 f/2,8 or the Tokina one?

nikon version. based on my experience with the tokina (canon mount) version of the 80-200... :ipuke: however, the latest gold ring version is quite highly recommended tho...

come to think of it, the only tokina lens i can safely recommend is the 28-80. the rest... well. up to individual tastes.

I'm staying away from the ipods as far as i can... imagine the salesman just told him to "take 1 new ipod from the shelf loh" ...after my friend complained that battery indicator not accurate... and imagine this problem set gets shipped back to where it was made and repackaged and sold again ...

Hmm ... ok .. didn't know the drawbacks of it. But overall, the SuperCCD still does a very decent job IMO ...

After trying out a while DF's L (thanks to him AGAIN! hahah...) ... i'm dead set on getting it due to the accuracy and quality of the shots. I'll still keep my 28-135 ... then slowly get the wide angle / macro last since i rarely shoot macros.

yes, it does. which is why i'm mulling over whether to get a used s2 for shooting people. but, same story as ur lens. i'm weighing my pennies vs usage.

eh... DF is a working photog. so, he can justify a L. accuracy, u're referring to AF? well... its also partly dependent on ur cam body. same for quality of shots. the glass elements shapes the way light enters ur cam. but, wat is finally being captured is also dependent on ur sensor (or film, if u are a SLR user). think abt it. ;)

like for my case..
Im getting the 80-200AFS for sports as the main reason, maybe for portrait too..

like me, i bought the old old tokina 100-300 f/4 (red ring) for sports or events that is far away. its a very slow lens although f/4 but i'm still keeping it. if you try it i think you'll throw away and its heavy, about 1.6Kg i think. :bsmilie: but i'm learning to work around it and improve my skill. ;)

gOOd aftErNooN, all juz caMe back FrOm luNcH liaoS ah?

In case you don't know, IBM machines do get refurbished and hits the shelf again after resolving the issues and repackaging it. And so does the rest of the manufacturing companies.

NO manufacturing line will dump the entire product and create a new one to take it's place, it's
TOO costly. Think about it.

Oh yeah, even if you sent in a faulty product (any company) and they replace one for you, you can be assured it's a REFURBISHED SET.

It will never be a new set.

Aiyo... please don't add on to my dilemma ... spoke to GENO yesterday .. i nearly settled on the Tokina 80-200 AT-X 828 AF Pro (gold ring)... heard from him got the flower hood model which is in.

After looking round ... think i more or less settled on either the non IS or the IS one now ... i just need to see how the lens performs and whether i will encounter handshakes or not

Frankly, as again, buy the best, you will never have an option to look further because it's the best. This is also the best way to curb your spending.

:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie: ... no wonder you're Mr BBB ... :sticktong

you're not wrong to say that .. and its true. That's why i'm narrowed down to 2 choices only (preferably after i get a feel of the one with IS and the one without) .... at least from there i can decide... maybe snap a shot or 2 to bring back to compare...
