Thanks for the long write up... that's the problem with the IS which i'm worried about, somehow i guess its ok to buy 2nd hand but you have to face a risk. So far, my 28-135 has no funny sounds. (heard before you mount on any IS lens, best is you switch off the IS function and mount on the lens to prevent it from "shorting")... That's why somehow i'm still set on getting the IS version brand new, but prices are steep now.

Hmm ... interesting universal rule... :think: will keep in mind ... alex also mentioned this before.

As for the handholding .. so far, never really got a chance to use the 70-200 to test shoot.. only the 50-500 drain pipe from william ... which was a hair raising experience .. but fun! :bsmilie:

I'm also quite shocked the price of the 50-500 is around $1950

You haven't tried handholding a 500mm prime before...that is really hair raising...not only coz its big and heavy but its a $10k+ lens which is not mine. :bsmilie:

If you want, next time when we meet up for events or outings, I can bring my 70-200 for you to try out. (mine no IS tho)

The 50-500 price is really exorbitant now...last time I remember it was only around $1.5-$1.6k...now its nearly 2k...

Bottomline is, what application do u want to use the 70-200 for? You need to know before getting the IS version, it is quite a bit of money to plonk down for. For me, I personally feel that ~3k is a bit too much to pay for such lens, even if it has IS, for just casual shooting. If you're a working pro or your assignmemnts justify such a purchase, yah lar, but if hobbyist like us not really necessary lor. Just my 2 cts.

But serious ... ask eawtan ... i somehow just love the S2Pro / S3Pro .. think about it .. you're getting the best of both worlds :sweat: ... sometimes i look back... i still think what if i had gotten the S2Pro instead of the 300D ... :think:

But now .. no choice .. no turning back .. don't intend to lose so much $$$ on my purchases.. just stick with what i have.

Believe me ... i'm a little afraid of handling lenses belonging to others.. knowing they COST so much ... anything happen :sweat: .. scary.

Can can ... no problems ... just want to get a feel of the lens ... :sweatsm: .. sigma's focus ring also quite tight but loosens after much usage which i'm not comfortable with ... canon's one constant all the way ...

Maybe that shop i asked is priced a little high. But then i guess, prices have gone up for lenses? (anyone can confirm?) :think: .. not getting the 50-500 long kang .... that's definite ... even if i want, it'll be the 100-400L :sweat: ... (thanks to darkforce lah!! :complain ...

I know its alot of money.. but i'm thinking long term wise... not going to sell anytime soon... hmm .... hopefully get a few Ls ... after that learn how to be wedding shooter? ...
