What's that cabel across the D70 sign? do you need to do sugery on your cam to hook up the grip?

Nope.No surgery required as they state.(See below)

September 9, 2004

Yes indeed, the D70 vertical/battery grip is in development!

Harbortronics VG-D70 Features:

o Remote shutter release via IR (removable fiber optic cable) or hardwired (camera modification).

No camera modification needed to use the IR shutter release feature. This essentially emulates the ML-L1/3. The camera has to be configured to using the IR remote, and used often enough to keep the camera from turning the IR remote feature off. The half-press feature will also not work normally via IR. A removable fiber optic cable will route up the front of the camera to the grip... very simple, cable stays out of the way, and can be removed if desired.

o Remote shutter jack included on grip

This jack can be used with remote cords, slaving cameras together (i.e. stereo), or for connection to a D70 which has been modified with a remote shutter release jack.

If the camera is modified to add a remote control jack (which may void the warrenty), then all limitations are removed... there's no need to set-up the camera for remote use, half-press works fine, etc. There would be a short cable jumper running from the camera to the grip to connect the two.

o Multiple Power Configurations

The VG-D70 can accomodate one or two EN-EL3 batteries (standard D70 battery). The grip also includes a standard DC power jack (industry standard!) for use with external power supplies, large battery packs, etc. This jack is protected against reverse polarity and overvoltage.

Hang in there... I'll get it done soon!

Also, we have posted the new PDF regarding the D70 and Fuji S2 modifications.

Manual for the vertical grip can be downloaded from HERE

Thanks... I'm actially looking for a FW2 + RAID solution... but this is a good recommendation... I'll check it out at SLS or Funan.

I'm also waiting for the 400GB HDD price to stabilise first... yes.. I'm eyeing them

Not so fast lah... Acer will use for long long time... but these things I also keep track mah... actually was anticipating a G5 PB by 2005... looks like have to wait longer.

FW2 not available for PC YET .. only Mac ... FW RAID solution presently possible only with a 3rd party RAID card or motherboard IIRC .... and you need a PC to do that. The linksys uses USB 2.0 unless you go purchase a USB 2.0 -> Firewire converter.

400GB i dare not bet my data on it for the moment. Wait for it to mature first.

G5 PB? .. Ask TMC ... he was telling me its a little too hot for comfort.

Another solution ... get an old PC ... with Linux .. sufficient amount of ram ... run it headless (no monitor / keyboard / mouse)... with Samba file sharing.... Voila .. instant NAS .... ;p

RAID 5 better... heehee

Thinking also... I've got an Athlon 1.2 G PC hanging ard somewhere... actually intend to convert it to a server. Only prob is power consumption is pretty high and the MB runs VERY hot.

Mabbe I juz change it to a low power MB and stack it full of HDDs  and RAID it, tot the 200GB HDD pretty stable now.

RAID 5 alone is not the best... :sticktong

Wah...chim man!!!
Lost touch wif PC long ago already...now got so my new terms...clueless

Think I can go for another round of fashion shoot this evening ... Finish up major part of my stuff already ... :vhappy:

I dunnoe Linux leh... windows 2K can or not? Run headless

Went to SLS.. was offered a 5 disk stand alone box solution (RAID 0, 0+1, 4, 5) @ 2.3K without HDD... ex leh... might as well set up a new PC liaoz..

My current "best" solution is to salvage my old athlon use it a a LAN file server (with RAID) and also a web server.. but need to reduce the power consumption and improve security..  and I know NUTS about anything I mentioned

No point getting a USB2 -> FW converter... the bottle neck is USB2.

G5 PB, that's why apple did not release it yet... not "cool" enuf.. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

free RAID somemore (software raid)

but $10/mth more for your electrical bill

for me, i just have several hdd in the my main system, then use peersync to sync "my docs" to another hdd. like dat if 1 hdd fail still got a copy of it somewhere. cheaper somemore as i only need to mirror certain datas and i can use the rest of the hdd space for non-impt stuffs, somemore no need the same hdd unlike raid 1 or 5
