try nearest distance at wide and tele.

yes

i think it doesnt matter as the result will be the same. better to use longest fl so no need to zoom in to check.

so ppl says at min focusing dist.

edited to add:
shoot at 45 deg to the focusing line.

done that...picture at 28mm is sharp at the focus area..
but blur at 70mm....
