Sennheiser G3 wireless w H4n setup advice

A good sounding preamp is a significant investment, haven't tried the above but it's a just a device that allows you more inputs and manual control. Honestly I don't find that a properly padded, wire splitter couldn't do a better job and take up less space for that matter.

What you can do with just the G3 direct into camera, first you do a few seconds of video recording, then you use the audio profile from that clip to denoise and transfer the profile to your main take's audio, if the noise is bothering you. All else, if really critical, get a preamp, like the higher end beachteks or a juicedlink.

Nice, that's super compact.

Hi everyone, sorry i havent revert any earlier. Been busy.

I tested once again w different combinations of a Y-cable set-up with the 3 items: Camera (D800), G3 and H4n. They all work well. My initial reported problem was user problem (that was me fumbling w the cables).

On the average, the G3 seems to capture sound well without the H4n. I am sure the H4n is more sensitive and useful. Right now for my small set-up, i would just stick to the camera and G3.

Thanks for the help! :)
