Any recommendation for a good value for money Semi-pro/pro Camcorders camcorder? :)

Hi BaggioLee,

I'm using these 2 cameras and I would recommend both of them.

Panasonic AG-HMC152.
Uses SD card for storage and has 3 x 1/3 inch CCD sensors, good low-light performance.

Panasonic AG-HMC41.
Uses SD card for storage and has 3 x 1/4 inch CMOS sensors.
Not as good low-light performance as the AG-HMC152 but it has a Touch-Focus feature.
When this feature is enabled you can make any area in the LCD screen to be in focus just by touching it. Good for doing accurate Rack Focusing.

Cheerio !! :)

Hi there,

Another V newbie here... Does the mentioned type here support HD recording?

What is the the price of a brand new and used set most likely to be?

Cheers & TIA

Both cameras are Full HD (1920 by 1080)

For the HMC152, I bought mine in Nov 2008 for about S$5K. Therefore I'm not sure what the price would be now. I would think the price of a brand new set would be somewhere in the region of S$4500-4800.

I bought the HMC41E in Dec 2010 for about S$3400.

For both cameras, the 2nd-hand price would vary. I would rather not give a figure. It depends on the condition of the camera.

My two cents.

Cheerio :)

Cool, I think video making for event is more fun than photo taking and I am trying to venture out more thus asking. Both camcorders perform fine for you, as in gets the work done?

the new canon XF100 is also worth taking a look at.

=D

Both cameras perform fine for me.

The HMC152 is better for shooting when it is not that bright because the sensor size is larger ie. 1/3 inch as compared to the HMC41E which is 1/4 inch. It may not sound like much bigger in size but it does make a difference.

The HMC41E in my opinion is very useful if you like to play with rack focusing. The Touch Focus feature of the camera allows you to select a subject you want to focus on by using the LCD screen. Normally we have to use the focus ring to do this.

However, the HMC41E has some shortcomings too. The smaller sensor size will limit it's performance in low light. Although you can boost the brightness by 34dB, noise will be introduced to the image.

it has only 1 sensor right? not sure if the video quality is affected then.

doesnt seem like it, it looks fine still, plus its recording at a higher bitrate and more color than anything else in its price point now.

4:2:2 50Mbps.

yeaps...

what i was trying to say was taht it didnt affect video quality in any case when i shot with it.

and that the XF100 for its price actually does better by giving u 4:2:2 color at 50Mbps...which could give you alot alot of headroom to grade.
