Start with getting a raynox maybe... it's only $125 (90 or less if you buy 2nd hand) and can attach to your kit lens.
Or ask the veterans here to lend you one.

I believe they're just resized. If you use a macro lens you'll see that the insect will take up most of the viewfinder. xD
