Hi,

Just wondering how feasible is it to enable searching using regular expressions in the forums. Right now, as far as I am aware (please correct me if I am wrong), search is done matching whole keywords. Would be real handy to do searches for parts of words etc.

For example, there may be a URL that I remember reading on one of the threads a while ago. I can't remember the whole URL, only a small part of it - doing a search for just that small part currently does not return

ie. there may be a post where someone has typed in http://www.domain.org/directory/file.html
but doing a search for "domain" will not bring this post up in the search results since "domain" isn't a whole word in the post, but part of a larger string.

Actually, searching for "domain" using the Advanced Search does bring up your post.

Failing which you can use Google to search by typing in
search words/phrase site:clubsnap.org
at the Google search box

Hi Darren,

Thanks for the reply. Hmmm... I just tried doing a search for "mycart" in advanced search - there was a thread that had the following post with "http://secure.mycart.net/catalog/.... which the search did not bring back.

I was just using the URL as an example - I know about the google search for a site name. Maybe I should use another example - like searching for "tripod" and bring back results that have "tripod" within them like "tripodmount" or "tripodleg" etc

Is the post by any chance in the Buy & Sell forum? Due to the nature of postings in Buy & Sell, posts there are indexed every 3-4 days and if the phrase is not in the index, no results will be shown.

Nope, it was in Consumer's Corner, maybe that isn't indexed as often too.

Would be handy to do a search for (just a simple example) "tripod" and bring back results with "tripodmount" in the post - but not sure whether that is feasible.
