Hi guys,

was wondering if there is any different in quality for recording with a SD card or harddisk camcorder...

Like between Sony sr47 and Canon fs200...

Care to share your experience? Thanks:)

its more of how important is your data..

if the camera dropped...the flash card most likely to still be working whereas the hdd based one chances is gone case.

if on a trip...more likely to lose a memory card.

if a thief tried to steal your bag, throwing a flash based consumer camcorder at the thief most likely will give the thief a concussion....a hdd based one would actually kill the thief.

there are pros and cons so if still in doubt, get both or a camcorder that uses both.

A camcorder that uses both harddisk and SD card care record video on the SD card?
I thought that the SD card is for photos only while the harddisk is for the video?

Apart from the considerations of ruggedness and which option will inflict most damage on a thief, you should also look at the recording format, i.e. what codec and bitrates are supported. This has a major effect on the video quality.

how about battery usage?

Don't know about other users. But I find SD cards highly susceptable to data corruption in many situations. Not ejecting the card reader properly, cam battery goes flat during file transfer, faulty USB cable. Anyone experience this? HDD may be more robust in this respect.

Biggest problem I have with flash storage is that it takes a certain time after recording for the card to become available again. If you try to record the next shot too soon, strange things can happen.

May I know if in your experience, what are some of the strange things that has happened?

Thanks!

There are a few possibilities, maybe not that strange. Sometimes the cam just fails to record, or it could record after maybe 20 secs. Or it could record a short period then stop, or even record 2 clips with a gap in between.
