How far are you from your subjects? Won't they raise an eyebrow if they see your big cannon lens aiming at their direction?

I use a humble nikon 55-200mm vr, so it's not that big I'm not very far from my subjects, and most of them do see me taking a photo of them. I just try to take the photo pretty quickly to avoid further discomfort or awkwardness... then move on to other things so they tend to generally ignore me. Fortunately for me, there hasn't been any negative reactions so far

yepp.. that homeless uncle in #8 once caught me shooting at him on my F401x.. i havent taken a snap when he spotted me. no worries about confrontation. just be polite and smile, and never push your way. at most, if you're on digital, just delete the pictures in front of them
